Pie Pumpkin: leaf concern (it's not PM, i think)

I solved the calcium magnesium deficiency, but this started showing up in it's place and I can't identify the problem. Nursing school just started back this week so I don't have a lot of time to research this concern and I need your help.

Winter Luxury Pumpkins

Background:
-Container garden using solid wood furniture that drains well (but 3 are in five gallon pots until I find them a new home)
-ProMix Bx
-3 days ago: added a compost tea with ProMix Bx, worm castings, and Dr. Earth mix (and a little molasses)
-Added Dr earth compost a week ago.
-2 weeks ago: Grow More Maxi Cal 10-0-0 for Calcium Magnesium deficiency
-Added agrowinn worm castings and Dr Earth garden veg mix a week ago.
-Been using Sea Grow 16-16-16 seaweed liquid fertilizer (dry mix added to water).

The discoloration starts at the V portion of the leaf veins, then proceeds to extend out. Not all the leafs are like this (yet). It seems to be cell based, not topical.
First time pumpkin grower. I have my garden on the roof of a house's add-on room so the roof is fairly flat, plus the pumpkins get a lot more sunlight and fewer bugs =)

I think that is just the leaf pattern. How old are your plants? I am growing the same pumpkin. Mine has leaf patterns too but I haven't looked that close so it is throwing me a bit but I am pretty sure that is it. Is that plant healthy otherwise? I use Dr. Earth too. Love that stuff! My plant may not have the patterns on all the leaves either. I believe the older ones didn't. Let us know how many pumpkins you get per plant! I'd love to compare notes.

Thank you for the reply, I'm much relieved =)

Seeded mid/late July. This picture (Aug 19th) shows the converted bedroom furniture best. The last two boxes are completely covered with leafs by now. The boards running across the soil surface are just on top and do not separate the soil, they just strengthen the planter.

Please ignore the 2 plants in the 2 liter red soda bottles (they have been donated to a friends garden and have room to grow now)

My babies are about 5-6 weeks old and the leafs don't have that yellow edge anymore. The plants have 1-3 baby female flowers each (jellybean to small gum-ball size) If I calculated correctly, I should have pumpkins for my soup for Thanksgiving.

I'll be growing the pumpkins over side of the house. I'll have a couple of 8 foot boards hanging straight off the roof. Then I'll run nylon strings between the boards to make a poor mans net to keep them high above the ground in as much sun a possible. The roof itself gets too hot for the vines to rest on. I'll have plenty of vine training to keep me busy on my study breaks.

Premature pumpkin harvest here. Heard a large crack in the back yard yesterday, and went outside to find my largest Big Max lying on the patio with a big gouge out of it. Either it got too heavy for the stem to support or the squirrels were playing with it. Anyway, it broke off and rolled down a slight slope and over the retaining wall fence. Decided it was nature's way of telling me to harvest and get the vine into the compost pile. The big pumpkin weighs 43.5 pounds and has a 54 " circumference. The smaller one is only 13.3 pounds with a 31" circumference. Loved growing these this year and will probably grow them again next year. 3 New England Pie pumpkin plants have produced 5 good sized pumpkins and I have 6 more that should be ready in a few weeks!

Yes you can grow 3 plants in there but as they say they like a deep root system so first drill alot of hole in the bottom of the pool and put it on the place you want to grow it but first somewhat loosen the soil before you place the pool on top of the place that will encourage the roots to go thru the holes at the bottom of the pool then this is the critical part do not put any gravel or stone in the bottom of the pool but fill it with 1/4 bagged composted manure+1/4 spagnumn peat,+1/4 of your own compost or some great garden type soil ,+ 1/4 or a little bit more of perlite which is good for drainage and air space for good healthy root growth add about 1/2 to cup of lime,about a quart of granite or basalt dust or sand from a rock quary pretty cheap about 2 dollars for 5 gallons they have a huge pile of it from crushing and snapping there stones its in there way a couple of cups of organic time release fertilizer 3/4/5 or 4/4/4 or 3/4/6 ,blood meal if you have it they love nitrigen,fish bone meal is great it has lots of phosphorous to get it off to a great start and sets the blossoms mix all these ingredients together throughly and put in the pool and you will have fantastic pumpkins but be sure to put alot of hole hopefully all at least 1/2 in bottom of pool set on some loose soil with somewhat good drainage and plant them and eventually the roots will work there way thru the big hole into the soil below the pool great idea try put a little fertilizer under the pool before you put it down and fill it with soil good luck I think you will have success

I agree, Carol, roasting the pumpkin and then pureeing it makes a bit dryer puree. I use the recipe from the Libby's pumpkin can, my family likes it a lot, and I've used canned pumpkin and I've used fresh pumpkin. The quality depends on the pumpkins themselves, if they are fresh, some are good years and others are not, weather is that factor that cannot be controlled for the most part. When I use fresh pumpkin I measure 2 scant cups full. Libby's Famous Pumpkin Pie 3/4 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 2 large eggs 1 can (15 oz.) LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin 1 can (12 fl. oz.) Evaporated Milk 1 unbaked 9-inch (4-cup volume) deep-dish pie shell Whipped cream (optional) MIX sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger and cloves in small bowl. Beat eggs in large bowl. Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually stir in evaporated milk. POUR into pie shell. BAKE in preheated 425° F oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350° F; bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours. Serve immediately or refrigerate. Top with whipped cream before serving. Good luck to your daughter on the pie, be sure to let us know how it turned out. Of coruse, it'll be the best pie ever, I'm sure of it! Annie

From the pictures, doesn't look like anything is really wrong. Old leaves are supposed to droop and die, then new ones replace them. The Pleiospilos with the flower bud is blooming out of season so it's all mixed up, plus it needs full sun to get the blooms to open, plus it likely is in root shock from the repotting so no surprise it isn't performing at its best. You really should put each plant into its own pot, they don't all share the same growing needs so you can't really take care of them properly that way. Second thing is try to ID what you have and learn about their growth needs. Reading and learning is the key. Don't be discouraged by the inevitable early failures. Read more about appropriate soil mixes, pots, sun and temperatures. If you have the ability to grow these outdoors they will be much healthier than indoors. Succulents are not good houseplants. They are good at tolerating poor conditions but that doesn't necessarily make them for a windowsill. x

You're welcome! Looks great! I think the WL pumpkin likes the California sun :). I like your setup. You will have to update us on your vine training. My plant has been very healthy but very unproductive. I live in an area with short summers and strong weather so that may have something to do with it. I only have one pumpkin on the vine but it is a nice size and is turning orange. I want to see if yours is able to sustain more pumpkins than mine was and if your plants do better, I might try again next year. Maybe cover the plant so it gets a longer season and hopefully grow in a bigger space so I can grow more than just 1 plant. I just love growing pumpkins so I don't mind experimenting!
