I have two barbados cherry trees. Mine aren't bearing at this moment but they have and make great juice!I would pull it up check the roots add some good amendments since nematodes hate them and replant.

I think that I might be having the same problem as you. I also planted a Florida sweet Barbados cherry last spring and in the past year I have only gotten 2 cherries. The tree has grown a lot (its about 5x5 now) but whenever it blooms it seems to just lose all the blooms and end up with no cherries. I recently inoculated the tree with mycorrhizal fungi and hopefully that might help it. If you figure anything out to make it fruit please let me know. Thanks

I wonder what I'm doing right? I have 3 of them. One potted, one on Fruit Tree Hill, the other in the West Orchard. All are heavy producers and all are in different soils. The potted one is in Coconut husk chips and a peat potting mix, the West one is in straight fill dirt, up on a long, wide mound, the one on Fruit Tree hill is in very rich topsoil/Allgrow/Pine bark.

Tha oldest tree is about 3-4 years old, and I get countless fruits from it. The smallest tree is around 3' tall and wide. I let mine grow as shrubs.

I use whatever fertilizer I have, and they get minimal water. Two are full sun, one gets some shade from the Banana trees.

I suspect your trees just need time, but it would be worthwhile to give them extra fertilizer and water to see if it also helps.

A healthy tree that is old enough gets COVERED in adorable pink flowers. So, I suspect yours are simply underage?

I have teh same thing to report that Lisa does. Mine is in bloom right now, and it is only NOT blooming or fruiting about 2 months a year. It's about 4 years old, and it gives us more fruit than we can use.
A fist full of epsome salt just before the fruit ripens seems to sweeten them.

I'll remember that, Amber. Mine's blooming beautifully right now after a long quiet period.
I planted it last fall next to the patio because nematodes don't live well under concrete or very heavy mulch.
It has just started flushing out growth and flowers.
They also make great jelly.

How big is it, Veronika?
If the roots are still pretty much in the soil from the pot it came in you could safely repot it, examining the roots as you do.
Another thought...The original potting soil surrounding the roots may not be holding enough moisture. It also may have air pockets as it's decaying away. Try poking around the rootball with a shovel handle or something. Is it soft and wobbly or firmly rooted? Does it feel like it has air pockets? So many times I've had to do this to trees that have been in the ground and refuse to grow. Usually I've had to add some topsoil (just the garden soil nearby), jetting it into the roots with a hose nozzle. Firm it in well, making sure it's planted high enough.
If it's firmly planted and not too deep I would just fertilize it and water it well every few days and see if it responds.
Mine just came out of "hibernation" only a week or so ago.
So I gave it a deep drink of water with fish emulsion. It's dropped some yellow leaves, flushed out some pretty, light green growth and tons of flowers.
Yours probably will too.

I wasn't sure what type of worms Nematodes were or what they look like so I thought I would share this link of a picture of one and its egg. I'm also new to the board and this was the first time I saw something about Cherry Barbados Trees. I 'accidentally' bought two of them as the nursery told me they were pride of barbados(POB)plants, which of course was wrong but now that I've researched them I plan to keep them. One I planted outside the other I've kept in the house. I want at least one to survive. They are about a foot tall each. Does anyone know the growth rate and how tall are they before they produce cherries?
