Comments (13)Hi there, It is correct that the phenomenon you posted is due to the lack of pollination. Bottle gourds are night bloom. You will see the white colour flowers open during early evening and they wilter by daybreak. Pollination can be a big problem as the flowers open at night. The only way to go about it is to hand pollinate the female flowers which can be identified by the little gourd behind the white petals. To pollinate the females, pick a male flower and then strip off all its petals. Brush the anthers of the male flower with the stigma of the flower flower. That should help with fruit set. Comments (13)If you fix the issue with the plant itself, which should be the main focus anyway, you'll fix the problem with the fruit. Good cukes won't grow on a poor plant. Simple as that. And that plant doesn't look well at all. Could be weather related, disease (be sure to check the link agardenstateof_mind gave), and/or could be a problem with the soil. So, how has the weather been? Is the soil draining properly or staying overly wet or too dry? Does your squash that was planted in a different bed have the same soil as the cucumbers? I see some white stuff on the soil in the first pic, did you sprinkle anything? "The picture looks like cross pollination with a squash plant. It may still be good to eat....never know till you try." Can't happen. As Peter said, they are completely different species and won't cross. Rodney...See MoreWhat could be wrong with my "my monet" PIX
Comments (3)Two days later. Any more thoughts now? Watering system not a problem as far as emitters or pressure. Only difference in placement is that this one is on the point. No evidence of tunneling creatures. Good. 1 of the healthy plants in picture 3 above. Not so good. Same hurting plant as above in pictures 1 and 2. Needs more water????...See MoreHeathen1
