Wyndacre you are so lucky to live near Wrightman Alpines! The nearest alpine plant nursery to me is Alpines Mont Echo in Sutton, Quebec. They are quite a trek from here but I have ordered plants for delivery from them. I have also found a very good alpine nursery in BC called Beaver Creek Nurseries. Their selection of plants and quality is wonderful and their prices are very reasonable too. With a few exceptions, I would not purchase from mail order companies because I can purchase most of the plants they feature locally. I also highly recommend Pepiniere Jasmin as a source for unusual, quality plants. Their bulb selection is extensive. I should also visit Pivoinerie D'Aoust as they are only about 15 minutes from me and I know they enjoy an excellent reputation.

Well, the only garden thing I did today was plant daylilies. Got a late start today in the garden because I had to work this morning and I just finished watering the planted daylilies and dragged myself in now afew minutes ago. Haven't even had dinner yet. I got the rest of my plants from Mike Huben planted plus almost all my order from Melanies North Country Daylilies. I have four more to do tomorrow but otherwise that order from Melanie of 31 daylilies (including some from Brian Culver in Canada) is all planted. I want to get them planted tomorrow plus my roses and sedum so I can drag out my tomato cages and set up my tomato rows in my veggie garden. I have got to get that done and should plant those tomatoes as this Monday I have daylily orders being shipped from Karol Emmerich, Don Herr and Phil Korth. So by Wednesday I could well have more Daylilies to plant and I certainly will by the end of the week. Trying to get everything done in what seems like all at once to me.

Hi, I have ordered from Oakes Daylilies and Mariotts Daylilies. If you get on the daylily forum you can find old post with lots of suggestions too. I would also do a search on the web because there might be some small daylily farms near by that you didn't realize was there. Have fun, Judy

Have also been very happy with the two Mara already mentioned. Can also check for (or make) comments about particular suppliers on the GW Rate & Review Vendors forum. Almost Eden in LA and Mail-Order Natives in FL are two others that have delivered nice plants from interesting inventories. Dogwooderitternet in AR sells a variety of good quality starter-size plants through their ebay store; though do have to hunt harder for their natives as they've added more exotics over the years. Shipping really hurts cost for larger size plants, so shrubs and trees we could only obtain by mail have easily been 3 or 4 years behind sizes we'd have bought if available at a local nursery. Good suppliers will know when/how they can reliably ship to your address; slower (lower cost) options might be available for larger items in the cooler months, but most of the small stuff now does fine year-round with 2 or 3 day delivery. Edit: Have had 3 plant orders misrouted or lost over the years and the suppliers have made good on all but 1. That was for a gift tree someone sent us from an Amazon partner that would never disclose their physical address. Unfortunately you can no longer submit a USPS insurance claim without the sender's address and the replacement they claimed to have sent never showed up at the address we confirmed. So, would be very cautious buying online from anyone not established enough to either disclose physical contact info or work through an enforcing intermediary like ebay.
