GC Southern Style, 'cottoneaster?'

I asked the lady at the nursery if "cottoneaster" ground cover did well here. I've never planted it. She said, "Lord, no, it gets full of spider mites." Told me I wasn't pronouncing it right either. It was called cottonaester with a long O. Being from Mississippi, I pronounced it cottonaster as in "cotton" aster, the white fluffy stuff.

Well, I looked at my garden books again, and it says it should do all right in N. MS. It didn't give a pronounciation guide!

Any comments? I don't care if I spelled it wrong.
