Variegated Ginger
Comments (3)It sounds like the change in humidity in the air and moisture in the soil is too much at once. It's not an uncommon problem when transplanting but the effects are more apparent with plants that need high humidity. Make sure the soil drains well and then soak it thoroughly. A shower is a good way to do it. I would leave it for at least 15 minutes of tepid watering. It will need to be watered frequently.Ginger does not like to have wet feet so don't let it sit in water. The leaves curling into cylinders is their way of conserving water but only young leaves curl that way. Older leaves cup at the ends and start to turn brown. I like to double pot high humidity plants. That way I can water the perlite or whatever in the outer pot without over watering the plant pot. Comments (9)It is Stromanthe Sanguinea "Triostar". It is listed as hardy to zone 9b but I've been growing this plant outdoors for years. It's almost croaked a few times from a nasty 22 degrees freeze that we had two winters in a row a few years back. It likes shade. It needs water on a regular basis even if planted in the ground. Comments (1)I don't know how big the ginger gets, but a variegated Convallaria (Lily-of-the-Valley) would be somewhat similar and hardy. There are several different forms, but availability is often limited....See Morebihai
