SUMMER RE- RUN one of my Melanie Mason intros.

Mike Derow's PRELUDE TO PANOPLY. I can't believe the number of buds and scapes on this. It was only planted last spring of 2008.

A small section of the snapdragon garden. Thats ARRAKIS SUNSET (orange) front, WOEBEGONE GIRL (PINK) in back of it and PROMISE TO BEHAVE more in the backround.

The Relocation Garden in the front yard. I started this section in spring 2008 and I call it the relocation garden because everything in it has been relocated from somewhere else in the garden.

Rita, Your clump of SUMMER RERUN is very impressive, and looks like it will stay that way for quite a while! I like the bloom on PRELUDE TO PANOPLY, and it looks like it will be a bloom monster, but not sure I could have it in my garden just because I would never be able to pronounce it!

The garden pics are wonderful as well. I love the colors in the snapdragon garden...very nicely done!

Melanie sure does sell nice plants. I have 5 of her intros planted this year so we shall see how quickly they will increase here.
I haven't tried Mike Derrow. Do you have his website?

I once worked for a nurseryman/landscaper on the growing end of the operation. He had just finished a job on a road I sometimes traveled to work and he asked me my opinion. My response "what job?" I told him I didn't remember seeing any fresh landscaping at any of the business on that road. I didn't expect his reaction when he grinned and said that meant it was a huge success. LOL. He wanted a natural look and evidently got it. That being said, suggestions on landscape or any floral design is just that. They aren't cut in stone and that means you do what looks good to the eye and balances the picture. Lightening isn't going to strike you if you plant anything in an even number. If you think about it, nature does just that roughly 50% of the time. ;-) Had some gals from a gardening club come in for some sort of presentation, and a floral designer had been on their program the month before. A lady asked me to please show her which was the 'front' of her plant so she could face it forward in her pot. I told her what ever side looked best to her. She argued to me that plants indeed had a front and a back because he said so! I don't think I convinced her that he didn't mean that in the literal sense. I spent part of my growing up years in Europe and am rather a fan of formal gardens. I can go either way. I think the only thing I find really disturbing are the 'little-soldiers-in-a-row' foundation plantings or bowling ball shrubs. Oh......one more.....and it's very popuar here. They buy a gorgeous weeping ornamental tree and trim it straight around so it looks like an open umbrella. I always makes me think of Edward Scissorhands. BTW beautiful birches.

Thanks everyone. Ensete don't produce pups. Since they have never bloomed, they keep coming back year after year after year! Meyermike... After a killing frost, I chop them all off to a 4' stump, break my back fitting them into 15' gallon nursery pots (black plastic) and drag them across my lawn down the hill to my basement entrance (sliding glass doors). I chop them off to 4' stumps so that the plant and pot will fit in the door and be barely short enough to drag them on some plastic across my family room carpet, down the hall, and into an unlit, unheated food storage room. They keep growing for a couple of weeks but finally settle down and go dormant. I water them just once during the winter months. In April, I bring them out into the light and heat and they take off growing again! When the danger of frost has passed in mid May, I plant them outside in the same spots, year after year. They grow bigger with each passing year. As long as they don't flower (I don't expect they ever will) I don't see why they won't keep growing as many years as I want them to.

There are so many beautiful daylilies blooming here each day lately that I often don't know which direction to point the camera and were to start. I go out and usually if its just too difficult to get to or insists on pointing the wrong way, I don't take a picture unless its a special case. Like a FFO on a new 2009 intro I just planted this spring. Sometimes I just look around and zero right in on a flower or grouping that looks epecially good that day.

WOW ,,RITA; That first photo is absolutely breathtaking.Just gorgeous.And the second photo of the Lilies is gorgeous, too...Well,I was wanting to see a close up photo of the Oriental lilies.I thought several thats in my back yard was Oriental Lilies, but, no, they not.At least they look nothing like any you have.The foliage is different,and spreads out to make big plants,and I hate the things.They have been cut down so many times,and they come right back.They have huge stalks, but soon as a flower shows up, they fall over on the ground.Ran over them with a lawn mower and cut them off to the ground and 2 weeks later they back up with bloom stalk. I love that TIKAL MAID . its beautiful,and BARNEY IS GORGEOUS.I love that one the most. MALAYSIAN MARKETPLACE is gorgeous, too..You really have some beauties.I am glad you posted BARNEY again,as I think hes beautiful. Jean

I may have figured it out. You have the kind of daylilies I love...beautiful colors, beautiful eyes, beautiful edges, but not a lot of thick yellow edges. That's why I go so stupid over yours and think I have to buy them...Simple.

I don't know how to quite explain it but I find I deffinately have my own opinion of what looks good and what doesn't. There are exceptions but the everdone edges so popular in florida these days is not what I like.

I also started out picking soft colors. Now I want vibrant color that is really noticeable. I don't mean loud (althought I do like orange) but just vibrant. Even a softer color can be very vibrant.

One of the best things about Summer Re-Run is that its named that because it reblooms. It rebloomed for me last year, it's first year in the garden so I expect it should rebloom lots this year. It looks really great in a clump.
