Late Blooms from Michigan

There are definitely fewer blooms these days, but here's a few mid-late bloomers:

I'm really liking my newer Carpenter daylilies this year --

The always-beautiful Victorian Lace --

Dreamy Elegance with Kurumba on the left --

One of my favorite yellows --

Trevi Fountain on top, with China Veil beneath. China Veil is my only stippled daylily, and I really like the look --

And a nice bright one to end the group --

My favs in this group, that I don't have, are TOTS and Kipling...K just reached right out and grabbed me!!!
You've sure got some beauties blooming now. Keep on posting. I love looking. :)

In my area, there is a local greenhouse that sells(individual) 'Champagne Bubbles' (F1 Hybrid), in 6" wide, short (half?)pots, while in full bloom. But here in VA. that is during late April, early May & this variety may not be as winter hardy in your zone, as an F2 variety, as explained by Stokes seeds catalog (online) Of course, you'd have to wrap the pots, something like florists do, for use on a table. Cut individually, very low near the base, may last up to three days at most. Never did sear them... As for alpine poppies, those may require too deep of a pot, or massive sowing about now, outdoors & may last just a couple days at most, if temperatures are cool. Blooms are quite small & stems very short! I have seen a bouquet of Shirley poppies that my uncle bought for my aunt, in Southern California from a roadside stand, that last about 5 days, for her birthday in June. But, those were cut in 'bunches', much lower down the stalk & not an individual flower stem. They were numerous blooms, of various colors, accomplished by cutting each bunch, much lower down the stalk, to make a more lasting bouquet.. I have no idea with even attempting something anything like this, using the oriental poppy, unless there is a huge patch located at some abandoned house or yard, somewhere up in Michigan. I would suggest consulting a florist, about what becomes available at that time of year, or make plans to order in advance. Besides, I have no idea what is in bloom locally that far north, on that given date, Peonies, or Lilacs, or Lily of the Valley. Possibly, you may just end up keeping it as uncomplicated as possible & simply resorting to buying roses, or carnations ?

Goren, you are right, but fall seeding is a misnomer and actually means late summer in most areas of the country, especially in the higher latitudes. KBG requires a long time to germinate and mature enough to be ready for winter, and unfortunately winter generally comes early in Michigan. If you seeded KBG now in Michigan it would probably take 21 days for those seeds to germinate, which would coincide with the first frost for many parts of MI, not a good thing for young grass. If the OP was in places like Virginia, lower Illinois, Kentucky, N. Carolina, then yes, it would be better to get seeds down in the true fall (Sept. 21). A good rule of thumb is when day temps are in the seventies, and nights are in the high fifties. In some places this means mid-August.

Thanks, everyone! Seil -- The teachers loved the flowers, I was just sad I didn't have enough to make bouquets for all of the staff like secretary, music teacher, etc. -- I just did not have the blooms available this early after such a harsh winter so I decided I would just do each child's teacher. Flaming Peace sure put on a show! Ingrid -- thank you! I am just getting into roses and adore the old garden roses, even though I grow mostly new ones. I need some more room so I can have a special old garden rose corner! For now I will just have to visit the forum and enjoy looking at those! Madri -- Thanks, the flowers were a big hit at the school! Everyone wanted to smell them and couldn't believe they were all from my garden. I love seeing photos of roses from everywhere but it is special to see some pretty ones come from colder zones, and the spring is so special after being inside for months! Sara-Ann -- Thank you! I love seeing the other Michigan gardens on here, gives me some hope that I can keep my garden going! Jim -- Thanks, yes it was definitely worth the wait! I planted a whole second row late last season so I'm seeing a lot of these bloom for the first time and it is delightful! Martinca -- Thank you, yes it was quite the winter up here! Surprisingly I lost more during the 12/13 winter, but I think that was because I was a newbie and not planting properly for my zone. Kate -- Thanks! Yes, Dream Come True is an eye catcher, my husband even commented on that one! Peace is always a gorgeous rose, I agree! I have some more photos I took today of that bloom opening up and it is even prettier all full and pink tipped! Iris-gal -- Thank you! It is a pleasure to share! Carol -- Thank you! I agree about Kordes Perfecta, I could not believe that bloom form, and it held for at least two days! I planted my two Kordes Perfectas last year so this is my first time seeing them bloom as established (or at least second year) roses and they are really a treat. I decided to pick up Claudine's Charm, since so far your recommendations have all been on target for here. However, Trevi Fountain is one that I had problems with because multiple flowers tended to be crowded on the scape (I had it before viewing any of your posts). I assume you finally got decent rain. Seems strange that you are already on last flowers.

So nice to have a few still blooming, and such pretty ones too. My favs are probably Treasure of the Southwest & Kipling, bright, bright, bright!
I only have a few actually blooming today, but on the plus side, Century Club finally bloomed, and it is perfect. I had been whining because I didn't think it was going to bloom at all. Doesn't have many buds, but at least it is doing something.

You still have quite a few beauties! My favorites in this group are Dreamy Elegance (looks especially good combined with the purple Kurumba) and Key West.

Great daylilies as usual. I really like that first one, TREASURE OF THE SOUTHWEST. I hope you keep on getting blooms to post. We are done here and I miss my daylily flowers.

I was kind of snoozing with just one eye open then you went and posted kipling and now I'm wide awake.

Love the color of Treasure of the Southwwst. good looking daylily.

Kurumba doesn't look to bad either.

Glad to see your finally starting to warm up.

I'm liking the brightly colored ones today. Treasure of the Southwest, Spanish Queen and Kipling are knockouts. I also love the photo of Dreamy Elegance and Karumba.

Can't pick no favorites out of these.I love them all,and especially Victorian Lace.Guess she has to be my favorite. China Veil is a beauty, too. Keep them coming,I love looking at all the photos.
