Very heavily overcast today. That means my neighbors to the North and South of me will get rain. Bevy of beauties today. Too many to post here.

Thanks for a colorful start on a "blue Monday". Karen Sue is beautiful in a clump! I got Big Apple as a bonus last year and was wondering how it would look. Thanks!

The ground hog had clouds Feb 2 in the Potomac Valley, just south of PA--so we are expecting Spring in about a month. Lots of planting going on this weekend to enjoy the rest of the winter. I finally have learned to value winter through WS. Planting huckleberries, mountain laurel, delphiniums, lots of salad greens, and wildflowers this weekend! Oh, and also cutting back the horrible vines and things that tend to take over the borders of the woodlands.

hvx cutworm ... but it is gone.. since if you look close.. the last three new leaves are not munched on ... stepped on when it was fully furled.. and just coming out of the ground.. or hit with frost or freeze at that same moment in time .. again.. its all the oldest leaves .. bottom most leaves.. not the new ones in the middle.. but they are still .. damaged or not.. food making machines... but take the worst off today ... and then in a week or two.. take the second worse ... just grab the leaf.. run your hand down the petiole.. and tug until it snaps off ... i think that was 3 questions... ken

Thanks for all the feedback on the garden. Cindyj, I do get a lot of sun in my back yard - ran out of room in the shady front yard. However, to confirm Steve's suspicions, the yellow twig and the fence cast a fair amount of shade. The fence is to the west and I have a bank of trees to the east, therefore, most of the sun is mid day. ajfan, my hedge is Arbovitae that has been growing in this location for about 20 years. This type of hedge could cast a fair amount of shade, however my hedge is running east to west. There is a hammer head lot behind mine and this hedge was installed to provide privacy for both homes. After year 15 we started giving it a haircut every two years and and we tie up any loose limbs. This helps keep the hedge tight and compact so it can survive our snowy winter storms. The yellow twig is the Silver and Gold. The foliage on this dogwood stays beautiful all season, not like the red twigs I have tried to grow in the past.

Great pictures & nice start to our Monday. Just reminded me I should have Karen Sue somewhere, hasn't bloomed if I do. It was a single fan last year, must be one of several I have that has lost its tag, or, gasp, died. Hope mine didn't, your clump is gorgeous.

Managed to get a light drizzle out of the clouds. Drove over to my sister's, some 2 miles away. Had to drive thru puddles of water left over from the heavy downpour she got. Life sucks sometimes.

Tom your daylilies are beautiful. We have the same "No Rain" problems that you have. I watched a storm on radar the other day and it danced a complete circle around us and we only got a very light mist. Couple that with our Louisiana heat and I have a lot of plants in distress.
