Years, well, OK, decades, ago I subscribed to AD and Home magazine, AD for unattainable inspiration, Home for a more down to Earth perspective, I found the "traditional" home mags hopelessly boring and granny like. Home, of course, went the way of all flesh, but I was a subscriber to the end. AD lost my interest when it started all that star worship stuff, I really don't care about the homes of famous people. Fast forward a few years, H&G and HB were my house porn of choice, then H&G folded (I am a total Dominique Browning fan gurl, I liked the mag, but I really miss her monthly columns), and now I am left with HB and New England Home (which has gone downhill since it was sold). So, I, too, will pick up the new and improved AD to give it a test drive. Thanks for the tip, amysrq. sandyponder

That happens to be one of my all time favorite backsplashes. Unfortunately, I don't believe it works with your cabinets because of the two tone. Two tone cabs (to me) lean toward a more classic traditional feel. That backsplash (again, to me) reads a bit more earthy. It's not that it doesn't go with the individual colors of your cabinets, I believe it's because of the two tone. It's hard to read your countertop color on my monitor, what is it? I see that your uppers (beautiful BTW) have glass fronts and shelves. The shelves look to have a slight greenish cast to them. What if you were to do a mini brick (assuming you like that cause of the Fire and Ice pick) in a very pale green glass? It would tie into your glass shelves? This is from Oceanside Glass, Elevations, Color Midori Matte, 1x2 offset joint (I think). Just as a kinda idea of what I'm talking about. I didn't search a bunch of sites... just went to Oceanside cause I thought they'd have something along of the lines of what I'm talking about.

It's a nice plan. Lovely from the outside, not trendy. The rooms are good-sized, and the arrangement is logical. The whole downstairs is fairly "open", but you have large bedrooms as "retreats", so you have an escape from that open-ness. The simple footprint and (mostly) consolidated plumbing will make it an economical build. As to the slope, I think you need a builder to look at the plan and your land; I don't think we can accurately make any comments here on this board. The only things I'd change: - You have a long master bath vanity with two sinks -- I'd give up some of that space and have a small linen closet INSIDE the bathroom. - The toilet set apart into the shower room is a bit odd, but not a deal breaker by any means. - I think I'd do away with those "computer spaces" in the kids' bedrooms and extend the closets. Big closets help kids keep their rooms clean, and these bedrooms are plenty big to allow desks without the "indent".
