flowers not blooming
Comments (4)I also notice that you mention 5 hours of sunlight... this may not be enough for all of your chosen plants. Roses need about 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day to flower well. I'm not sure about the other plants you have. My Morning Glories were in full sun from morning until night, and they did well. My roses receive the same amount of sunlight. Soil is a big issue, too... there's lots of great information here in this forum on planting mediums. I'm not sure if just adding some compost to your pots is going to help... as I said, my thought would be to research the proper culture for each type of plant you want to bloom, and see what you may be lacking, or giving too much of....See MoreOpinions Needed: What would you do?
Comments (32)Howdy...After yesterdays T-storms, today temp was warm and very sunny. Outdoor gardening is done, 'except for plucking weeds,' and I'm almost finished hauling out indoor plants. Kemistry...you received the Jasmine? What size pot was it in, or did it come bare-root? Is it budding/flowering? Perhaps you can post a picture? Don't worry about the minimum fee. Kartuz runs out of plants, FAST. The other day after visiting their site, most plants were sold out or out of stock. Rooting cuttings? Unless a plant is really rare, I don't take cuttings. Don't have room for duplicates, lol. One reason I dislike pruning, lol. Did you check the Rooting Method site? Did they want you to download a file? Odyssey, you really lucked out. 16.00!! And tall, too. Did the edges crisp slighly during winter? Is it possible a west window is too bright for a Begonia? You did say it was near a west..I'm sure you know what you're doing. B. listada is quite pretty. The silver steak does it justice, especially since it contrasts dark leaves. Have you ever tried a Wax Begonias? The type sold in garden centers as Accent or Edging plants? They're inexpensive and easy to keep. Leaves are green or purple and flowers are white or 'pink.' I once placed a Wax Begonia in a 10-gallon aquarium. The aquarium had a hood with a light, the back opened. It got watered whenever I thought about it. The aquarium was low to the ground in a north window. One night, while walking outside, I happened to look in the window. The Wax Begonia grew through the back of the tank, stood at least 3' tall. It was packed with pink flowers. It was potted directly in soil without drainage. It lived for years..until I painted the room, took the Begonia out of the tank...Good bye plant. I also had a Wax Begonia, 'about a year after getting into plants,' hanging in a window. It'd bloom year round. If there are any garden centers or stores that sell outdoor plants nearby, maybe you can find one. If any are left, it should be half-price since it's June. Susan..lol..I'll find one. I've got a few prospects now..Thanks, Toni...See MoreJasmine molle; Jasmine sambac 'Flore Plena'
Comments (10)Hi again, ispahan and kandhi! I'm really so pleased to be started again with fragrants, and delighted to find some old friends here. Ipsahan, thank you for the very kind words. :) I bought another murraya from Logee's-- couldn't do without that. It has tiny buds swelling on it, and barely in a 4" pot. I'm so glad you like it too! Several brunfelsia-- lactea, jamaicensis, americana, all from different vendors. I tried for the biggest plants I could get, but none is really big. I think there won't be any blooms til next summer. I remember the brunfelsia scent starting to waft at dusk and just had to have that again. But I can't remember if they bloom on old wood or new. Do you remember? About the two jasmines -- they both seemed the same intensity to my nose (which is oldish and not the best). But I think the molle would win out because it's clear it will bloom more at once until the flore plena gets pretty big. About TT, I bought from them a lot in the past, and had good feelings about them, so I didn't hesitate to buy again. The molle was a 1 gallon, quite a nice size, bushy plant. It has an old woody stem, so obviously has been cut back a lot to keep it thick. I also bought a Grand Duke from them, and it too was a 1 gallon, big and bushy, tho it hasn't opened any buds yet. TT is okay in my book. Their plants are big, with good roots. But they do come very ugly, with leaves totally covered in brown stuff which I think must be spray of liquid iron. It doesn't come off. But I figure new leaves will cover that up shortly. Especially jasmines, since they grow so fast. I got a (very big) Osmanthus var Four Seasons, and it is soooo ugly, but I'm hoping by next year it will be beautiful. Kandhi, your jasmine is glorious! !!! Just fat and beautiful, with all those bright green leaves and thousands of flowers. I saw your picture of your steph on another thread, too. You have such a green thumb! I hope you'll share more pictures....See MoreTo Robert, help needed with J. molle
Comments (2)My J. Molle grows to 6ft ht every year and blooms profusely. In spring I cut it down to 2-3 ft ht when I take it outside. I shoots out lot of new growth and then blooms all through summer. I have noticed it tends to shoot out long creeper kind of stems during winter time indoors and does not do the same in summer outside. I have attached the pic of the plant below that I trimmed 2 weeks ago....See MoreRobert (zone 7a, Oklahoma)
