'Autumn Flame' Red Maple leaves turning yellow, not red
Comments (9)Unless the spot with the tree is especially prone to waterlogging, I doubt the wet summer and fall had an affect on the tree color. I was in NJ a few weeks ago and saw plenty of beautiful Red Maples. Now, the caveat is, Red Maple is one of those trees with fascinating genetic variation. Some trees regularly turn glorious red, while others are always yellow. Its just wierd like that ;-) If it was red last year, then something else (besides the weather) is likely affecting it. If it was yellow last year, it was probably mislabelled. I suppose it could just not like the surrounding soil too......See MoreGeraniums---red leaves and well water
Comments (6)Bob I add calcium because the magnesium calcium balance is out of wack: from a master garnder: Your well water is to be preferred over your softened water, even though your well water is quite high in Mg (Note how your softener removes nearly all of it?), and plants generally tolerate high Mg levels, as long as the Ca:Mg ratio is somewhere near 4or5:1. It's not, but there's an easy fix. A tablespoon of gypsum on top of the soil will add Ca and help bring the Ca:Mg back in balance. I have added a water soluable fertilizer this past weekend so we'll see how it goes....See MoreVine Maple, outer leaves turning red, other leaves light green
Comments (3)Like the two earlier post, that's natural for this plant at this time of year. Especially for one grown in full sun. I have noticed that my vine maple growing under the canopy of large conifers, the leaves are all still green, while out in the open they are showing some red....See MoreFig leaves turning yellow, fruit turning red and dropping
Comments (7)Yes, so cal San Fernando valley. The fig's ph tested at 6.75, which is within the range of N absorption. My water is pretty alkaline at 7.9 so it tends to counteract all the acidity I put into the ground with compost and fertilizer. the tree gets plenty of water, I test monthly with a probe. my cure-all is worm tea, but I'm worried a shot of N right now will be a killer in the heat. i'm going to try a heavy watering in the morning. my wife is sort of devastated as the figs are turning mostly inedible. Past years were super sweet and tasty (big thumbs up on the V de B) and we had a huge crop coming this year....See Morebusylizzy
