FFO yesterday and today

Yesterday Dragon King started to open and was fully open by evening. The flower was small and the color distorted. Would that have been because of the cold, wet spring we had? Otherwise it gets the same water and fertilizer as everything else.

Today Doug's Red Mercedes started to open.

Lastly, here is my first seedling. I thought it was pretty. What do you think?

This seedling only has 1 fan, but it sent up a strong scape and has 5 way branching.

The Destined to See clump is magnificent! How wonderful to see 11 blooms on it a once. That's one of my favorites here. I noticed my DTS actually has some side branching on it this year. It must finally like where I have it planted. I grew it in a pot for many years, and it never had many buds growing that way. Your seedling is a really pretty lavender purple, and I like the watermark. Rambunctious Rosie looks like she would be an a!ttention-getter with her color and size! Regarding In My Pink High Heels, the first bloom season was very good, but for the past two years, something has gone wrong. The plant has produced just a few scapes and they are very low down. It has never come close to the listed 32" height. The color in this photo is accurate-surprise--it is that shade of pink now. In the first year, the color was deeper. I have considered getting rid of it, jury still out. I love Lillian's Thin Ice, this is the second season. Since diploid scapes are thinner, I know some of them can lean, I have never had a problem with this one, but weather will play a part in that. I can't tell you about Mint Octopus, for it is new this year. Scape height listed at 32", but more like 24" right now. Burning Inheritance was a bonus plant and never did well, but it was moved last fall and now it's really starting to come on. Not a favorite for me, but for my husband, he loves that hot color.

Thanks, everybody. I think the Dragonfly Dawn/Thundercat cross is the pick of this group. I will let MOM/DD bloom out and then pull it out. Maryl, you are right, we were having nice spring type weather here, but it suddenly disappeared and the heat is on--bad news and we need rain, probably a lot of people do.

I like the seedling. The flower is pretty and I like a strong grower that wants to bloom a lot. Doug's Red Mercedes is a great color and my favorite. Poor Dragon King, I figgure the next flowers will improve.

Your seedling is my favorite. I like the color and the subtle white edge and I love plants with good branching and bud counts.

I don't know about the cold, wet spring being the reason for the splotchy/distorted/small bloom, but I have also had several of those this year and not just on new additions to my garden and not to just the first blooms.

Your seedling is very nice indeed. I am partial to the red daylilies that have that little bit of white around the edges.

This morning when I went and checked my seedlings, I found this one open but did not detect any scent. This afternoon, I walked into the garden and could smell it right away. I didn't know it was the daylily, it smelled like honeysuckle but there weren't any out there. The closer I got to the seedling bed, the stronger the scent was. What a nice bonus! While I was out there I measured the flower and it is 5" across and there are 30 buds on 5 way branching. Think this one is a keeper! Marg

Your seedling is very pretty, and I really like Doug's Red Mercedes. Some of my first blooms will be splotchy then clear up. If it's thrips, mine don't clear up.

Love Doug's Red Mercedes! Is it really that red? Seedling is beautiful. Nice soft color from the picture. Reminds me of an English vintage fabric. Nice! :)

I checked with last years picture because at first I thought it might have been a lot darker this year. It is facing west tho, maybe the shade made it look that way, but it's the same color as last year. I love the darker shading in it tho. It did get a bit of white pencil line edge to it with the second flower. I'll have to see if it does this year too. Marg
