Windeaux- Thanks. I def don't want to pay for 2 varieties of the same rose if Kaiserin Friedrich and E Veyrath Hermanos are the same. And I do have MFK, and don't like her veggie centers! Don't want another. Masha- Thanks. I would've been super dissapointed to get a pink HT. (shudder!) Lux- I hope to goodness that I remember to feed these babies. I've lost so many bands over the last couple of years because I was scared to over fertilize. Then they are too small to make the winter. I may actually spray the babies to help them grow, too. My rose garden back in 2005 seemed fully mature after 2 years because I was spraying and fertilizing. Nowadays it takes much much longer for my roses to grow. I have the roses you've listed except for Anna Oliver which I've ordered over and over only to be told they are out of stock. Tried again this time though! Harborrose- I'm hoping the angular thing was just the "teenage awkwardness" stage. I've had teas start out that way on their way to huge monsterous beautiful bushes. Are there any of the climbers that have growth thick and sturdy enough to self support? Which of the climbers are super duper flexible and need to be tied up? I'm running out of climbing space but thinking of setting some of them in areas where there is no actual support but where they will be able to "get a leg up" by throwing canes onto mature plants around them (and short growing stubby pine trees behind them). I've done that with a couple of other climbers with great effects but I think the stems have to be really sturdy.

You know...you're right...I'm gonna have to be verry careful. I am a rose person too, and have so many of those (I have not dropped that interest, but just added violets!) that it's crazy. I went to the Plant Depot in San Juan Capistrano today (great nursery) and they had all these beautiful AVs...alas, unlabled - with fantastic flowers and beautiful variegated foliage, and I had all I could do not to pop 3 or 4 of them into my cart....and I'd just gone there to pick up vermiculite! Scary. Anyway, I did some soil mixing when I got home: 1 AV soil, 1 perlite, 1 vermiculite. It came out really nicely. When the time comes to re-pot my rescue plant, I'll use this mix.

This appears to be the same bloom that you were asking about in a prior message. Two of our members suggested that this is H. Amigo. Irespective of variety which most folks have a favorite and can genrate hours of discussion, winter squash can be be categorized into groups. Butternut types are the most popular and most versatile. They have resistance to SVB which is of paramount importance in some areas. Pumpkins are most popular for decorations, but some types are widely used for pies. ( not Libby's pumpkin pie filling is made from a butternut type not a pumpkin) Acorns are popular as a personal size baking squash, Delicata types are less popular but used for the same purpose. Hubbard types come in all sizes and noted for thier keeping qualities and flavor. Most susceptible to SVB. Finally the ancient cushaws, good pie pumpkin, but it is a personal taste. One of my favorites but generally low in popularity. In case you you are asking about kabocha and buttercups, they are Hubbard types as is the acorn size Gold Nugget.
