New and repeats from Tuesday & Wednesday

JP's are starting here and we spent yesterday setting up a Bag-A-Bug and then checking the plants. We shall see just how effective the beetle trap is. Last time I checked, there were probably about 10 + that were caught yesterday after I set up the trap. It seems they love my seedlings, bee balm and coneflowers. Too hot yesterday. No rain...well measurable rain yet. My so called grass is crunchy and dead. I guess that is why the beetles are emerging. Here are some new and then repeats. Enjoy.

MAUI SUNRISE - new last year and what a large bloom this one is. Opened perfectly (twins)yesterday. Late morning I noticed it started to roll back(second pic) Excellent scape height. Not sure on the buds yet.

JOAN DERIFIELD - filled with buds which prevented some blooms from opening fuller.

KIPLING - shorter in scape height than I would like and has been a problem with decent openings. I've had it 3 seasons and will plan to move it and see if it improves next year. Otherwise I have to eliminate it.

SIMPLY SCINTILLATING - new here this year so can't judge scape height, buds etc. I like the pink color and I'm sure next year, it will be a winner.

SPRING MYSTIQUE - ffo's yesterday. Didn't get a photo before the sun came up so it is backlighted but then the second photo is late morning when I had to use an umbrella to help shield the sun. I got this last year from The Lily Farm along with several others. Too bad I couldn't use it in a cross. The temps were way too high.

FLAMING WILDFIRE - ffo yesterday. Tall scapes,lots of buds and increases very good and I'll end up dividing it this year.

TRAHLYTA - ffo yesterday. Always a winner here.

WORTH IT ALL - still pumping out the blooms.

PRAGUE SPRING - noctural opener. A winner here.

BLACK FALCON RITUAL - was in overdrive yesterday.

HALF MOON KEY. Always a trooper.

That is it for this post and I'm sure I missed some but many more blooms to open yet. :-).

Lots of wonderful photos, some of daylilies I don't see that often. Maui Sunrise is lovely, I love big flowers. What a shame about Kipling, really pretty flower. Worth it all is so pretty.

Lots of beauties! MAUI SUNRISE looks like my kind of flower, and I always love JOAN DERIFIED and BLACK FALCON RITUAL. I just got BFR last fall - the two fans were dinky, and only put up one scape and had maybe four or five blooms. Yours is sure impressive! Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos.

Destined To See of course!! Love it & great pic! I can see it a million times & not get sick of it. Guess what I'm going to do when mine blooms...post a pic! I'll be to gosh darn excited not to! Mount Herman Morning Beauty was new last year. This year it has 3 fans and all have scapes. The bud count is 12, but I know budcount often goes up considerably--certainly not always so only time will tell. No, Black Fathom Depths is not that blue. My camera wants to make things look bluer than they are. (It drove me crazy when I was taking pics of Siberian Iris). The eye though has a really iridescent look to it. The performance is amazing. I got it last May. This year it has 6 fans and 6 scapes. The bud count is in the 30s! Leslie Renee is doing very well. It has increased to 3 fans and looks like it's about ready to be 4. The fans all have scapes and the bud count seems to be about 16 or 17. It is taller than registered here. Lavender Heartthrob and Joan Derifield are both doing well here. I'm especially impressed with the scape on Joan. Lavender Heartthrob is way taller than registered. It's registered at 22" and I haven't measure, but mine is at least 10" taller than that. I prefer a tall plant with a flower that big, but I wouldn't have planted it in the front. I love Feminist Bookstore. I think it's a beauty. Of course I am a sucker for watermarks and Curt Hanson's things usually do well here. Hope I answered all the questions. OK now I have to get back outside. I haven't taken any pictures today! Val

Schoolhouse- I'm so glad you're here! Beautiful strainer...tea is such a fun way to enjoy something to drink...and have beautiful dishes and accessories, too. Very pretty honey container. It reminds me of Laura Calder's kitchen in French Food at Home. I watch her show on the cooking channel and she has wonderful containers for her honey, oils, wine (decanters)...and a milk bottle full of cream or 'creme fraiche'. I bet she has wonderful tea, at her house! Katrina ellen- Oh, I hope you get a cat. Dogs are fun, but kitties love to cuddle. At least mine do (LOL) especially as the weather gets cooler. ML- I'm glad the parrots had a good time. I bet they love being out of their cages. I hope you get your daylilies and have a safe trip home. It will be fun to see all of your plants...and we have to have tea in your new Teahouse...at least online :) Marti- I think it will get busier on the forum. As the days get shorter, I think more people will be on the computer and thinking about inside projects, again.

" listing all of the work I did building my house as if it were a job (it was, after all) and putting in plenty of buzz words about managing the project." that was a very good idea! you did do all of those things - and on your own. no need to tell them you were boss. tho, that's what others who operate a bz have to 'resume'. that was such a tremendous accomplishment! it'll come... maybe you could throw out a date in 2-4 wks and see what their reaction is. you could just be needing time to 'clear up loose ends' so you'll be totally on your toes at a new job. you can think of a better way of wording that. some days I struggle with my name - lol! ok, not quite that bad yet but I did think yesterday was Thurs and Friday! I started out going out to do errands to leave Friday clear for trash day... but before I left I put trash in the car to take to my sister's. Friday is trash day. her bin was out so by the time I got home I was very confused about what day it was... I'm another one who is so glad not to be in the work world anymore. I wasn't when I was first disabled (when I was awake to think about it) even tho I knew I couldn't hold a job anymore. now when I look around at what is going on in places - heck, I hardly want to go out to do errands anymore.

Sorry to hear about your grass turning brown. Mine is brown too. I told my husband it looks like someone sprayed Roundup all over it. You have a lot of pretty ones. My favorite is that wonderful clump of Half Moon Key. Worth It All looks fabulous. Others that stood out were Joan Derifield, Maui Sunset and Black Falcon Ritual.

The drought and the heat is terrible. You have several that I really like! I can't decide if I like Maui Sunrise the best, or Spring Mystique which puts me so much in mind of Cosmic Kaleidoscope. Worth it All and Half Moon Key are beauties too, in fact you haven't got a stinker in the bunch! Beautiful to see the,/.

Your flowers were really celebrating the 4th as they all look just stunning. They all could be favorites. MAUI SUNRISE and then JOAN DERIFIELD are my favorites.

Beautiful flowers AND pictures. My two very favorites are Half Moon Key and Joan Derifield. It seems like I always pick JD in everybody's pictures :)
Grass is dry here, daylily foliage looks awful, nothing green. Well except the weeds which love it (I surrendered - too many, everywhere, and I don't like to deal with chemicals at all).

WOW! I think the prize for number one goes to Worth It All, although every time I see Trahlyta I think I need to add it to my garden. I really like the color on Kipling too. What a shame if it has to go to daylily heaven next year......Maryl

First off, you never told me what camera/lens you use - great pics!

WORTH IT ALL - I must have this one!

JOAN DERIFIELD - can't wait for mine to look like that but it's doing pretty well for a newcomer to my garden.

KIPLING - shame, it's such a nice form and color.

MAUI SUNRISE looks like a winner.

Beautiful shots, and I agree 100% about Half Moon Key.

My pick of those I don't grow is Simply Scintillating. I love the color and simple form.

njmomma:I have a Canon EF Lens EF70-300 F4-5.6 IS USM lens on the Canon Rebel. Easier for me to use this lens when photographing the blooms since I don't have to get too close to the blooms, ie step in the bed to get a good closeup shot. It is set on auto focus and all I need to do is adjust the distance, ie 70 through 300, for closeups. Heavier camera now with this lens on. I love our Canon Rebel. The simpler to do pics the better for me. ;-).
I also use a Canon SD800 Powershot IS. Small, easy to handle but I think the zoom is nothing special and I prefer the bigger lens on the Canon Rebel.

Thanks so much! I also just got a 70-300mm lens for my Nikon but I'm still learning how to use it. :S
