Gardenia leaves turning yellow
Comments (8)5/5/10 Hi, I see this an old thread I hope some one reads it. Please respond just to let me know the question is out there. I just got my mother a gardenia plant this past Friday bearly a week a go for her birthday she loves plants and was so excited. It is nice and big had it looked live and strong all the leaves shining and standing up and spread out it is full of buds and even has one bloomed flower. I asked the gardning place which had it in doors to repot it for me to keep in doors. I took it to my mothers house and put it at a sunny window where light is avilable most hours of the day. As it says on the tag and we made sure it was watered. She calls me today Wendesday, that I should take it back to the guy I got it from and ask him what's wrong. The leaves are starting to get weak and yellowish and some brown lines etc. The flower that bloomed is dieing. She dosnt want to see her nice pretty plant dieing so fast. I couldn't take it there but I spoke to the guy he tells me make sure it has water and light. Well it has both but I don't think I want to keep the soil wet? Another think, I read on here and diferent sites about useing acid feed etc... They replanted it with regular plant soil not even mirical grow which has some nutrient in it. At this point what should I do? One women at the flower place said put it out side. Its not really something I want to do. We live in NYC I don't want some one to think we put it out for them to take. Please give me some good ideas to save the plant and agrivation for my mom. Thanks in advance....See MoreGardenia leaves turning yellow
Comments (1)After living with one in this yard for 6 years and watching how they behave around the neighborhood, it seems they just do that, shed older leaves sometimes. Doesn't affect the bloom show. No fertilizer I've ever tried does as much for plants as a little homemade compost. For blooming shrubs, putting a banana peel at the base can have amazing results. Put near the base, under the mulch a bit to keep fruit flies off of it. Could you add a pic showing the whole shrub? After it blooms, you may want to thin some of the twigs or even some larger branches for more air flow, and to instigate a growth spurt....See MoreWhy are the bottom leaves turning yellow and falling off
Comments (9)the plant is about 10 feet away from an east facing window. I have not felt it for dryness but I water it when the top leaves look droopy. The plant has drainage. I have not given it fertilizer. The plant is fairly new to me. I bought it a few months ago from lowes. Based on your comments, I can try to move it closer to the window. Thank you....See MoreBlue Pearl Sedum turned yellow/pink, leaves fell off, and rotted.
Comments (5)KJM Not the root cuttings - cutting of the healthy parts of stems that will root. Very easy to do, and you may end up with more plants. Cut off healthy parts, let them callus (heal) for a bit, then stick into well draining mix (easy to do in pot). Keep in partial shade for a while, and do not water at the beginning - roots should start growing quiet fast in nice weather. Sandy soil over the clay isn't that good...I know, have similar. Definitely not good for succulents. Either build up the raised bed much higher using lots of grit, or perhaps better, plant succulents in containers that can stay outdoors year round. I have most of mine in containers. They need drainage holes and fast draining mix. I think there is still time to replant -but don't know your zone/general location (best to add next to your name :)...See Morebirdsnblooms
