Nightfall has it's own special charm

So I just did my post on lovelies that bloomed this morning,

but wanted to share these. When I dared venture outside tonight around 9:00 I found that there were still a few blooms that survived the heat so I started snapping away. Some of the pics came out kind of nice so I thought I'd share them with you.

You got quite a few nice night shots! Zeus, Land of Cotton and Gilded By Grace look especially good. Those and many of the others held up well for a 100-degree day.

Thanks Karen. The album is great. I'll post a pic with Jt and my Gk's.I tell people about the GJ site and they think it's great what fun we have.I do scrapbooking for a hospice that does a gift of a day to clients.Like the make a wish for children.I want to start a box to go around to the patients to put something in to cheer them up. I think it will be a good project for them.Thanks for taking your time to put together the album.Joan

Hi 3cats... just to offer friendly feedback on a point you made (I'm not arguing/lecturing and don't care what you do :) You seem to feel that because you are ok to wear leather that there would then be no reason to reject fur. There is a big difference which is why most people who wouldn't be caught dead in a fur will still wear leather. Yes, while it would be ideal to be leather free too, leather is a byproduct of the meat industry. No animal is suffering in order to provide you with a pretty coat, unless you are wearing exotics. That is unfortunately not true for most animals with pretty skin. If you care about animals or the message you are sending, perhaps you will want to consider a coat made of something that is also being raised for food.. then you can be as warm as you'd like but not sacrifice your values (if you didn't say you were sensitive to the issue, I wouldn't have bothered pointing this out). On the pricing issue.... my mother has a nice old mink that no one in the family has been willing to wear for at least 20 years. My sister brought it by a furrier last week and was offered $750 for it. They will obviously be selling it for more. So, I guess the prices do vary quite a bit. Cyn427, Thanks for that info. I didn't know it was possible to get down humanely if it wasn't eider down. I'll have to look into that because I try to make humane choices when it's an option. I have an eiderdown comforter and it's the most wonderful thing, albeit not inexpensive. On that note, 3Katz, if you want something warmer and lighter than fur, an eiderdown coat would be superior in every way. It may not fit into your budget though. There is no fur coat that could compare.

Best / most charming place(s) to visit in New England?

Part of the reason for turning our attention to New England is that the transatlantic journey to the UK is already a difficult one for my mother. Last year we went, and she suffered with a partially diagnosed back problem that actually compelled her to have back surgery the month following our return home. She was in significant pain for much of the trip, but somehow managed to "keep calm and carry on" for the most part. She's over that physical problem now, but realizes that she moves much more slowly than ever before and it's just increasingly hard to get out and do/see as she once was able to. However, England maintains its "magical hold" over us both, so I can't say we've ruled out the trip that we've been planning ... just wanting to weigh all of our options, and it does seem that New England holds a number of good ones! As for what we like to do ... Well, we mostly just enjoy the experience of being in new places and seeing how others go about their lives. We are people watchers, and enjoy meeting locals. We like historic places (although we don't tend to spend a lot of time in museums), places that are quaint, charming, and beautiful. We like to dine out -- nothing terribly fancy, though -- and have a fondness for afternoon tea. We like ice cream. We like interesting, quirky shops. We like encountering interesting, quirky people. We like seeing things that are very much unlike things we would see at home. I watched a few YouTube videos last night on New England, one in which a man talked about HATING to drive in that part of the country. He said that particularly in the summer and fall, roads are horribly congested, but that some of it can be avoided if one gets off the main drags and heads for the backroads. Is that easily done? Re Martha's Vineyard -- I've read that it costs around $140 or so take a car over on the ferry. Does that sound right? Does that include the return trip? Renting a car on MV is prohibitively expensive. I have never spent any time in Boston (although I'll be flying through there in a few days). I've looked into flying into other places such as Hartford and New Haven, and it looks like BOS is going to be our only option for non-stop flights on AA.

Zeus really is such a handsome fella! You just have the lovelest garden with all sorts of great blooms and not just daylilies. Great show as usual.

Those flowers look like this at 9? Wow. I love Gilded By Grace and I want it even more now :) I like Marietta Warrior too, and I have a similar looking NOID :)

Nice to stroll in the garden in the evening and to be able to get so any lovely shots. Your white NOID reminds me of "Sunday Gloves". Zeus is the winner in this group.Avedon

Lovely daylilies, but I'm with the crowd, my favorite is Zeus :) I have a friend with a cat who looks much like Zeus, just a lot heftier. Very affectionate, friendly cat, you just don't want to pick him up :) Just love that beautiful color fur.

Hi forum friends!

THANK YOU for taking the time to comment on my pics. I have new respect for all the faithful posters here because it is an amazing task to upload photos & do a post! And some of you do it nearly every day...that's dedication!

I knew ZEUS would steal the show and since he's my 'baby', of course, posted the most pics of him! He is my faithful friend and as handsome as he is to look at, if you all knew how LOVING he is, you would find out where I live and come to my house and kidnap him...LOL.
He loves to be held, loves to snuggle, and sleeps on my pillow curled up around my head every night. Just the most gentle, peaceful and devoted creature I have ever been blessed to love.

Nat, I was surprised by the staying power of 'Gilded by Grace' myself. I thought with all the ruffling it would melt like most of the other frilly ones do after near 100
temps. But she still looked pretty at the end of the day. The other thing that amazed me is that even though she is brand-new in my garden, she opens up well. I have had some problems with the more ruffled ones since they're all immature still and the cooler nights.

Thanks, Avedon & Kay for the suggestion of 'Sunday Gloves'.
I bought that one years ago at a local garden center and it had no tag.

Those are super pics. Glad that Zeus perked up too!!! Lovely lilies, and Gilded by Grace is my favorite daylily here. The shot of the balloon flowers is so pretty.

Well. my very favorite photo is ZEUS.he is a beautiful cat and reminds me of the cat I had when I was a child.My cats name was TOMMY and looked exactly like Zeus, with that beautiful grey coat of fur.You really have some beauties blooming, too.I am loving the photo's of the Lilies.I want to try and get me a couple of them trumpet lilies that has the great fragrance for next year.Yours is very pretty.
