WANTED: from lunch to brunch: spring plant trade

Hello Everyone coming to the Atlanta area spring plant trade.

Since I have to work the day of the plant trade, Kathy suggested maybe we set up a brunch instead of a lunch for the trade. People are free to come to the trade early, I will be all set up for 9:00, (trade doesn't offically start until 11) and we can get a meal area ready inside. I will have the cats set up in rooms so people can feel free to come and go as they please and the beasts will not be able to escape.

How does that sound?

Sounds good to me, although 9:00 is early!!! Should we start the trade at 10 instead of 11 to make sure everyone is gone by 1?

I'll bring a fruit salad of some kind.

I think 10 is hard for Squirley Pete, she comes a LONG way. But people can come and do the hanging out earlier than later for the trade, we can just flip flop. So come and eat and hang out. I'm sure it won't take us 2 whole hours to swop, it's usually the hanging out and getting boxes set up that takes so long.

Kathy, I hate to tell you this...April 21 is lookin' pretty good so far for everyone. How about we plan to set a firm date February 29th. I will take suggestions up until then. When I email you with directions, you will get a whole note of how we have been running the trades. Please let me know if anything was done differently at the fall trade which you really liked, or was effective. Please note that you will get general directions from I20 which is a few blocks from my home. You will need to find your way from your place to this exit. I will have a cell phone number on the directions. PLEASE CALL if you get lost, or are late. One year we had a horrible traffic snarl, someone thought to call my home so we could wait for those folks caught on the highway. Please note that we will need to park creatively this spring. Hopefully they will not be actively working on our "live in home" that day, so we might have the front half of that driveway (the back half is being removed for more garden!!) They will be building 3 new houses in the empty lot across the street from me at that time. Hopefully my other neighbor will have finished their construction. So those who are planning to arrive a bit later may need to park cars a bit farther away. That means do NOT leave anything in your car that is valuable. No cell phones, bags etc. visible. Bring a blanket to chuck them under. We don't normally have car break-ins, but lets be careful. I still live in what is considered an "inner city" neighborhood. GGG P.S. i will repeat this information in your email note with directions. I will send that email notice beginning in Early March. I harvest email addresses from this thread and the next "FORMAL" trade thread. Make sure you have posted so that I can send you an email!!!

Tuna casserole is one of those dishes that requires NO recipe! Just ad lib - all you need is cooked pasta, tuna, seasonings, any veggies of your choice and a cream sauce. And some sort of topping - grated cheese, crushed saltines or potato chips, fried onions. Bake until hot and bubbly. This is my adult daughter's favorite dinner and she requests it specifically whenever she comes to visit. When she was little, I used to make it with a packaged macaroni and cheese (like Kraft or Velveeta) and add some sour cream. Quick, very easy and suited to a child's taste buds. Now I get a little more sophisticated and use rotini or spiral pasta (have also used shells and orecchiette), bechamel and real cheese. Sometimes I add mushrooms .And when making for her, always peas....but only canned peas :-)

I'm going to bring some Juicy Juice punch that would work for breakfast or lunch type foods.

I will have plenty of caffinated coffee and it's fixings, plates, cups, cutlery, and napkins (serviettes for all you Canadians!!). I can make some sort of an egg dish like a meat free strata.

Hey Glynis. Thanks for thinking of me but actually 10:00 wouldn't be a problem for us if ya'll want to move it up. My mom and I will probably be coming from her place which is in Newnan so it's not like I'll be driving from Alabama the morning of the trade. Heck, it could start at 7:00 a.m. and we wouldn't miss this lol!

Whatever works best for your schedule will be just fine =)

I am going to being my crock pot with a fruity oatmeal made with steel cut oats and dried fruits.

I was thinking about making a Portabella Mushroom and Andouille Sausage Quiche this year since it will be a bit early in the morning for Oysters.

I'm not sure I'll make it to the store tonight, my fruit salad might just be cantaloupe. But I see that someone else is also signed on to bring fruit salad, so maybe it will be ok.
