wow,I see lots of posts tonight, with photo's to see,Hooray, and I am adding some more to look at.Would have been lots more, but, some was took early today, then I went with the daughter to wal mart, then took a few more when I came back,,But, when I put them on the pc,couldn't remember the names of all of them, so I deleted them.will take more pictures of them nect time.

This is very pretty, and about 4.5 inch bloom. This is # 5 thats bloomed RITA.

PREDICTION is my pick of these blooms but I also like EL DESPERADO. I always love EL DESPERADO. The seedling looks ok, nice color. Kind of a ghost pink.

Prediction is so bright! I was feeling a little sleepy, and that won woke me right up. I can't believe your El Desperado is already blooming. Mine just now has scapes peaking out of a few fans.

Ahughes (or anybody else), if you're interested in a trade or SASBE, check out my exchange list... Esh-ga, thanks for the good wishes on the winter-sowing. So far done 65 containers, including 38 native species and several cultivars of native species. Its been fun, and I can't wait to see how well things germinate and grow! Winter-sowing affords the opportunity to grow lots of natives that would be difficult or impossible to get at nurseries, or exorbitantly expensive to buy as plants. I bought lots of native seeds (and a few non-native) this winter and offered extras on the Seed Exchange forum. There was a lot of interest in native seeds, which was nice. But I was dismayed to see people trading invasive species like Euonymous alatus (burning bush) or Ailanthus altissima (tree of heaven). One poster even explained on her exchange page how she grows Oriental bittersweet and keeps it contained on a trellis so it's okay! Yeah...only if she strips off every berry...if she saw how it's strangling native trees around here, she might change her mind!

I am thinking up plans on making my own compost so I can dump it in loads when the time comes. Depends if I can find a large enough chipper :) Planning on things I can plant, get established, and forget as far as no water, no fertilizer. The area under the pines will be something outside of my plans for a yard in the future. My planned front and back yard will not have any pines, I have the backyard mostly cleared out, minus all the trees, still planning on what I want to keep. The whole back yard will be a wooded garden, the front will have a small bit of grass, garden around that, and lead into the wooded part of my property. I think I've come up with my idea, not narrowed down to specific plants, but a basic layout and what I want from it. My current front yard area will just be a pain to get grass growing, bermuda since those trees really don't provide any shade, hoping it kills everything else (lots and lots of weeds), and by the time the trees grow up to kill out the bermuda, we'll be moved further back to our new area, and it can go back to being cover in pine needles. Which leads me to another question, tried to decide if I should start a new post, since it does differ slightly, but oh well. Containerized trees. The few trees in my current backyard/future front yard will have to go, there's 6 young pines. In that area, and once the single wide is moved, I'll be planting some trees, oaks, bald cypress, hickory perhaps, redbud, some other smaller ornamental. Wondering if I should get some seedlings, and keep repotting them in the years to come until I'm ready to plant them? Instead of paying $100+ for taller trees when I'm ready for them. I'm not good with pots, I'm forgetful, lazy. Wonder about winterizing them. I could set up a pvc irrigation on a timer from my well house to water them if need be, our summers are super hot. Perhaps keep the pots mostly burried? I would plan on getting around 10 trees. The arborday website has a good deal going on with 10 seedlings with membership ($10?), and if they live through my neglect, would be as tall as those $100+ trees at lowes and the nurseries by the time I'm ready to plant them.

Yay! They arrived safely! When I saw those sundae glasses, I knew they'd be perfect -- so cool and summery. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures, but they are lovely colors, sort of a pale green and frosted blueberry. And then you had to have the sauces to go with the cups.... I'm glad you haven't tried the grilling papers before -- and that you're looking forward to them. As I said in my note, I was a little hesitant to send anything cedar out to the Pacific Northwest, but they're just so neat! I've grilled shrimp in them, and a vegetarian friend of mine loves doing veggies and cheese -- she says cedar smoked gouda is a real treat! I'm so glad they arrived, and that you like the items. I had a lot of fun wrapping them all up. (That box is fabulous, isn't it? )

Ideefixe, I assume you are talking to me b/c I am the only one who didn't like the boxes. (Well, I like the boxes, just not in the china cabinet.) I don't think an object has to be pricey or antique to be displayed, but everytime I see those boxes, I picture a husband yelling "Honey, where did you put the stamps?" I think it is because the largest box has that silver rivet or snap on the side. They remind me of the canvas boxes that I just purchased at Target for my stationery supplies. They are pretty and functional, but their function doesn't seem suited to a formal dining room. Everything else in the OP's dining room is so polished and refined, the boxes feel like the odd man out. Just wanted to clarify so you wouldn't think that I'm a dollar-sign snob.

You really have some nice ones blooming. Pretty Gaudy and El Desperado are favorites here. Mine are nowhere near being ready to bloom yet. I really love the colors of Prediction.
This is what I do when I take pictures so I'll remember the names. I take a picture of the marker first and then take the flower's picture. When I download them to the computer they are in order and I can just delete the marker pictures. It makes it easier for me because my memory can be bad about names and I don't always get around to loading pictures the same day.

A perfect picture of Prediction. Yellows and oranges have never been my favorite colors, but in my garden I find that those are the ones that draw my eye every time. El Desperado is one of the most photogenic daylilies out there, isn't it. When I take pics, usually I take several of a flower & then sort through to pick out the best. Usually not hard at all. Evey picture os El D is great & hard to decide. Pretty Gaudy is not blooming here yet, one of my favorite daylilies, but why couldn't they pick a more appropriate name?

Jean, I do the same thing that Michelle does. Especially when I have more than a couple of daylilies in bloom. Even though I only have 150 daylilies, I forget their names if I don't take a picture of the marker first. Then I take several pictures of the bloom and save the best one.

El Desperado and Prediction are pretty good looking!

Thank you every one for the very nice comments.I thought I had already posted some follow ups on this post, but, guess I didn't.About me forgetting the names of some and had to delete them, what I usually do is,I bring a little note pad out with me, and some times,I walk through and see whats blooming, and ones I want to take pictures of,and write the name of them in this note pad.Then when I have my list made up,I go back and take the pictures,and put a ck mark by the one I just took the picture of,, or other times, I will take the photos, then write its name down on my note pad.When I load it into the pc,its all in order just like I took them..but that day,I had took several pictures and when I went to write them down in the note pad, the daughter showed up,and i got distracted,and thought no big deal,I will remember them, but,later,I didn't remember what I took pictures of.
