Snow storm is always better than Ice storms.
Snow acts as an insulation for the trees. My bonsai trees are left outside against a wall, when it snows I shovel the snow and cover them for protection. It's always better to have a snow cover before it gets extremely cold.

Shoot in our conversations when i mention the temps here and you mention the temps there in response i say to myself aww he is rubbing it in like another that i wont mention out west in a nice climate as well. I told you i will see what i can do to send you some snow so ha ha.

Cecil, when i was watching the news i saw that parts of Texas and Louisiana recieved some snow and wondered if it made its way in your area, i see it did. We are in for a warm spell this weekend as it will be 40 today!
You sure you dont want anymore its a SPECIAL feeling waking up on Christmas morning seeing it snow that many others do not get to experience.

The deep cold and whatever comes with it, is forecasted
for here in the NE. I am happy to say, that after much
huffing and buffing (plus many "Uuhh's"), all my many
figs are now safely "tugged" in...

Heck; this is late ~mid December! A few years
from now I may be able to grow oranges here in NJ
(a global warming thing?!)...

CXecil, its always in fun thats good for keeping young at heart! I was just thinking again looking at that picture you posted them fig tree's look a little lonely , perhaps you need some more to keep them company? Also on a serious side if i was a hngry animal come winter time them bare tree's out there would look real good.

I always admire you fig lovers in climates that figs are not supposed to like, I really don't think I would have what it takes to grow figs in that environment!

Peg, I thought some of you all would get a laugh out of my "Snow Storm" post, we hope everyone on the East Coast has all power & utilitys, and can stay warm & cozy.during your trying times.

you might try to grow them in a colder climate knowing how you enjoy them , heck if it came to where you have to pay a teen several times a year to wheel them in and out of garage growing in pots you probably would, but thats if they could take a break from all the video games they play nowadays.

RE my previous post about me safely "tugging" the rest of
my potted figs in the garage for winter:

Pity (and funny!), after all that hard work, none of them
figs showed me the good appreciating courtesy by asking
me for a 'bed-time-story'. I am sure that I would have
came up with a short figgy-one quickly. I guess all of them
had already been sleeping (aka. dormant).

They better produce many/good fruit next year...

Thinking hard, I do feel happy! For the last few weeks, I have
been playing "Russian roulette" with the weather forecasts.
Kept having dreams/nightmares that went along similar to
"gorgi, you NEED to clean your (stupid) garage AND tug your figs in".

Now (finally) all is a done deal...

It looks like we had more snow in Houston. I drove in Wednesday night during the "blizzard". People were crashing all over the place. I took a couple of quick shots when I got to the house:

The pomegranate leaves were already starting to yellow before the snow came. When I left Houston again on Monday, the leaves were still green. A few looked a bit wilted, but for the most part, they did not look phased by the snow.

James, what neat pictures, I never seen this before, the snow on the beautiful fig leaves, very nice, you could take these pictures, print them and hang on your wall in a nice frame, they are really pretty. Very Good.
Martin, i love that song, it is so pretty and you sure know the words, Keep singing this. I find myself humming songs alot during the day, My dogs, Nigel and Clovelly and Julie want to run away when I sing. I love Dino and especially Tony Bennett. My mother never missed Dean Martins show. He was alot of fun. I wonder what he died from? I wonder how old. I know they really enjoyed their figs. My husband bought me a DVD titled, " The Italian Americans" it was interesting 3 dvd's and all the It.American stars talked about their childhoods growing up like we do. They mentioned a few things about the fig trees and figs in their back yards. Like to get a hold of one of Dean Martins fig and see what type it is. His family, i Believe his grandparents came from the same Region in Italy I come from. We'll have to see. Maggie

We too are under a blanket of snow, more than 6 inches now and about 28 degrees. Supposed to be getting into the teens on Friday. I went out and took a bunch of fig cuttings for trade, just in case it gets too cold and causes winter kill. Actually, the snow cover is a blessing for any container plants. Clear cold weather is always more lethal than overcast snow weather.
