If they just sprouted, I wouldn't worry about them not getting enough sun. In fact, too much sun might burn them. I started strawberries from seed last year indoors and they did fine with indirect light.

I noticed at WalMart yesterday that they are selling disks to fit inside the bottom of hanging baskets which are lined with the coir fibers. It looks exactly like a dull Scotchbrite cleaner, which does not disintegrate at all. I picked up two of them to fit a large wire basket, but still need the proper sized coir form for it. At Old Time Pottery a couple of years ago, I found wire baskets which were NOT meant for hanging, they were designed to sit on top of wooden 4x4 posts. I even put one of them on top of a short 4x4 post with a coir insert and a pot of birdnest fern which rose up a bit higher than the plants in the ground. (I think Les might find it useful in his minihaha garden). I also planted the asparagus fern in the smaller such pots and put them up in the air on top of the 8' tall fence posts, those ferns can survive better without being watered. However, the coir sort of disintegrated and the soil fell out, the plants are struggling but still alive. Soon I will try the Scotchbrite indestructible pads in them....or maybe the steel wool 20" wide pads as a liner for my big basket. I ordered two big boxes of these floor cleaner pads to use in the garden. My intent is to repel slugs with the 4" wide rolls of the steel wool, surely they won't climb over that.....and then to stop the ground diggers from going under my house, by burying these all around the perimeter where they are a problem. But I'm now thinking I can put one as the insert for a hanging wire basket. Good drainage, good soil retention. What's not to like about that.

Yes, Marsha, good thing I didn't take your advice LOL It was good advice though :o) Hope you get a quilty day soon. The host may have had some machines in her car, but I intercepted before it got that far LOL At the very least, she would have probably sent her son home to get one if it was necessary because she only lived 20 minutes from where the retreat was. We just got a mass e-mail again thanking everyone for coming to the retreat and stating that the feedback was overwhelmingly positive and we raised about 3000 dollars for the school house. The host e-mailed pictures that she had her son take... Btw, you can see in the picture of my quilt block above where I had the tension issues (the pink fabric puckering), but I did fix it after that... Just a few more pictures and I'm DONE, I promise... Another shot of the whole room... the lady who had the same Bernina as I do was the 2nd one on the left side of the middle row of tables... and my Brother is two machines down from that, but the lady was ironing at the time, so she wasn't there... The lady in the back is the one who borrowed my Brother... I guess I wasn't the only one who put their quilt around their neck! Here's one without the quilt necklace... Sigh. Yeah. It would be great. I can get 20' in the kitchen by demoing the laundry, I suppose, but I have to wash clothes sometime :) But I'm planning to take out the walk in pantry because at 3' it's pretty useless. Okay, seriously, the most cooking I ever did was in a tiny kitchen with a tiny fridge, three small, lower cabinets, one of which was the sink, and a shelf. There was also a tiny table and a two ring gas hotplate on a cart thing. It was rural, abroad and not much prepared food (i.e., box cookies, bottled salad dressing, etc.) to be had so I made *everything* except the bread. (Yes, you can bake on a gas ring!) The cupboards mostly held the dishes. The shelf had the spices and staples. I'm stopping because it's not a very interesting story. The point is that, yes, you can survive with a really small pantry. What you have to do is adapt the way you live. Is there someone else in the house (garage, barn, wherever) where you can store bulk items? Can you live without them? Can you store papergoods in an underused vanity cabinet? Do you use a lot of canned/packaged/bottled pantry items daily? Can you make do with only having one or two of any particular item, and go shopping more often? Figure out how you use your pantry, what you want to keep there, what you've been dreaming of keeping there since you've been dreaming of cooking in the new kitchen, and you'll know whether the size will work for you. One thing you can do if you need absolute storage rather than superorganized storage is go against the fashion and get plain shelves instead of pullouts. That'll give you an extra couple inches on each shelf. If you're not good at organizing cupboards, however, so that you always know where to lay your hands on the tomato paste and the kids know exactly where to find the peanut butter, pullouts might be more useful than those extra couple inches.
