Comments (1)I got one last spring at Lowe's but I'm sure they don't have them now. If I can propagate one from a cutting would you want it? Don't know how hard it is to do, but I'll try if your want. Sara...See MoreSouth Florida Fragrant vines for trellis
Comments (9)Hi Tom, Welcome to the friendliest gardening forum on the web! These people are amazing and so willing to share information, seeds, plants, etc. I have a passionvine (Passiflora caerulea) planted in those exact conditions. It THRIVES!!! Continuous flowering and the flowers are fragrant but you need to get real close to notice. Not a hummingbird attractor but the butterflies like it. I think your most fragrant vines would be the jasmines. And for a hummingbird attractor you can't beat coral honeysuckle. They are all over mine everyday. A combination jasmine and coral honeysuckle would fit your bill. And have you visited floridata dot com? I'll include a link. You can search by type of plant (vine) and then narrow it further by other characteristics. Here is a shot of my passie and honeysuckle. Hope this helps! ~Betsy Here is a link that might be useful: Floridata clicky...See MoreMichelia Alba in South Florida
Comments (29)Mine is in semi-protected area (that results in not enough full sun as the plant would like) but I think the real "secret" is climate change. After reliably having about three hard freezes (8 hours or longer) every winter, we have had no hard freeze for the past three winters. This spring, I have had gardens like Orlando and Tampa - first time, ever! I used to start every April with a yard full of cooked spinach - all the tropicals frozen back to the roots. Not the past two years... I have variegated shell ginger blooming in the yard, for goodness sake. I never even moved the adenium from their full-sun location way out in the back yard. I had to really get after a lot of things with the loppers and cut them back... plants that in earlier times would have been frozen back to the ground. My M.A. is about 6' tall right now. It was taller when I first purchased it - at one point, it froze back almost to the ground. Updated link (prior link no longer works): My Purchase...See MoreWhen to sow seeds NOT planting guide - South florida
Comments (18)In S FL you can start the pepper seeds fairly soon, like next month, for planting out in Sept., but keep hurricane season in mind. Not so much for wind as for drainage. I never heard of starting katuk from seeds, either--most people i know who grow it just get a piece from someone who has one, strip the leaves and stick in the ground in a shady spot. ETA If you're in Broward, I believe Excalibur up in Lake Worth sells katuk plants. There may be a nursery in the Davie area that does, but I don't know which one....See Moreyacheryl
