I think now is fine. Generally I tell people Washington's Birthday (not the "President's Day" holiday) for the first dose of organics. This is based on a last frost date of March 15th. However, the world does seem to be warming up in real time. If you have not had a killer frost in 2 years, now should be good. Since I moved to Bandera we defs have killing frosts unlike anything y'all get in SA. We drove through SA this weekend and it was amazing to see what did not freeze this year. In Bandera all the sago palms are frozen back from 5 hours of 14 degrees F. We pulled ours up under the entry way and saved it. We did not pull the split leaf philodendron back and may have lost that. We'll see. I'm not putting out any fertilizer yet - although we do have blooms on some of the shrubs.

I saw one similar to this at a local BB store. The nursery sticker had it labeled as "Devil's Tongue". No flowers or berries, but the same pattern of spines with a larger spine sticking out of the middle, like a tongue. The name seemed fitting. I'm wondering if it's the same cactus. Are the berries edible? They remind me of cherry tomatoes. With a name like "Horse Crippler" maybe not. Beautiful fuchsia flowers. Tyler

I add maxi-crop to the fertilizer every time I feed. Just mix what you need. It goes off in about a week.
