My all time favorite DL and other pics :)

RAINBOW RADIANCE is my all time favorite daylily for outstanding substance, reliability, and beauty. This one will stay looking perfect in 100 degree weather and opens flawlessly every single time. Gorgeous coloring - the pics don't do it justice.

This bee looks photoshopped in but it's not! (I wouldn't even know how to do that).

Thank you for posting the pics - you have some wonderful plants! That calla lily is especially nice, and I wish my columbine looked that magnificent. What is your clematis? What a beauty, asters have to be my favorite flower, At one time I had over 60 different cultivars but have yet to grow 'Bluebird'. I lost most of mine due to two extremely wet winters but I've started replacing the ones I've lost that is when I find them. Of course when I see new to me varieties they seem to follow me home. Mine are just about finished for this year but it was nice to finally see some honey bees working the flowers, it's the only time we see them nowadays, they must be from a hive that has been brought in for the winter. Thanks all for your nice comments. Fancy Buttons is described as 5" across, but I think mine is more like four. As the day advances it opens up a little more so it might reach 5". I didn't get to see it later yesterday. I bought it directly from the Joiners. Their DLs seem to do well in my garden. I had to add that new photo of IF since each day it seems like there is always a quantity of blooms. I have it planted towards the front and you always notice it as you walk by. Thank you. Jane

Your clump of Rainbow Radiance is really pretty! The scapes look like they have a lot of buds, too. The second coneflower shot is really amazing. I like the way you captured the bee zeroing in for his landing. You told us the model of your new camera. What lens are you using?

shive - For all but the last picture I was using Nikkor (Nikon) 50mm f/1.8G fixed (normal) lens. It's super fast at 1.8 and I get great results from it. However, on my cropped sensor body it's a 75mm really and I have to be at minimum 3 feet from my subject to get a focused shot. I'm learning to step back and crop afterwards.
The last pic was with a lens I'm in the process of returning. Yes, it's a great pic but it took me 20 pics to get that one and the other 19 were soft (not sharp). It's the Nikon 55-300mm. I'm exchanging it for a 55-200mm because it's a better, cheaper lens and I don't really need such a long zoom anyway.
Coming in the mail tomorrow is a Sigma 17-70mm lens (Macro but not a true macro). It's heavy, but rated excellent and much cheaper than Nikon brand. This will probably be on my camera the most.
On my wish list is the Nikon 85mm f/2.8 macro and the 35mm f/1.8 which I should have gotten instead of the 50mm but I'm not exchanging it because I like it too much and it's not expensive so I'll be happy to one day have both.
See what happens when you ask a simple question? Sorry, can you tell I've been researching lenses non-stop for the past month? :) I'm going looney.

Well your research is paying off on the lenses and on the pics. And your Rainbow Radiance is a beautiful clump. I was very curious as to which would get your nod as your all time favorite since I can't decide that myself.

Natanya - My husband, who is a photographer, was very interested in your lenses. He has the same camera and wanted you to know this info. Here's his message:

I have the same camera.
we have the 18-200 Lens and the 35.
This camera must have an S lens for proper focusing.

I love your Rainbow Elegance, it may go on my long wish list. Lovely color & shape & looks like it blooms well.

Great soft bokeh in the 1st shot! Have fun playing with lenses...having a selection makes playing in the garden doubly fun.

The f/1.8G has gotten great reviews, I think you'll easily get your money's worth out of that one. I use an old E-series 50 prime from the 1970s and enjoy it a lot but I have to say it'd sure be nice to have auto-focus every now and then...

The more you use primes the more you'll like them imho...kind of changes how you think about your subject since you move yourself and not the zoom.

I'm getting the Sigma 17-70mm macro (not true true macro) today in the mail and I can't wait. It's rated really well and much less expensive than Nikon brand.
I really want the 85mm f/3.5 macro lens. I don't need a larger aperture since I'll be using it only outside during the day.

Well, that does look like a great daylily!! I had never heard of it before. The bee shot is fantastic!
I don't know how to photoshop either. I just take tons of pictures to get a few good ones.
