I don't think they produce viable seed in Britain
but you might know if trees in uk have viable seed.
The one in Botans garden has cones on it Botan I
would much appreciate some seeds from that tree.

I will see what I can do. I think I can reach them if I get on my orchard ladder with a pole pruner. I loaned my climbers out and haven't seen them since. :-( ...or him.
I'd like to see what the seeds look like myself. Maybe, like you, even try to grow some!

I've never tried UK-produced seed. They certainly produce plenty of cones here, both seed cones and pollen cones, so it would be worth trying seed from somewhere with several specimens (e.g. Bedgebury). The only question is whether our summers have the necessary heat for seed maturation. After a hot summer like 2006 I'd be reasonably optimistic, much less so after 2007's washout.

The seeds look quite similar to Sequoiadendron seeds, about 4-5mm long and 1mm broad, with a 2mm broad wing down each side, mid-brown (somewhat darker than Sequoiadendron seeds).

As far as I know c lanceolata has been inroduced to Taiwan
and ive had seed from Taiwan as c konishii. However is
it possible that the plants I now have could be hybrids
they look intermediate between c lanceolata and konishii
I might be wrong but seen c konishii at the Hillier
arboretum it has distinct shorter more pointed needles.

Here's a picture I took today of some cones I cut off the tree. They look to be immature. Should I dry them out and see if there are any seeds?

The cones were hanging down so the branches are upside down to show the cones better.

I think the seeds should be ok Ive got lots of seed
from my cryptomeria this year however the cones on
my cryptomeria are immature.
