I have an eight yr old, Brown Turkey fig 'bush'.. I call it a bush because it has 'suckers' that have appeared since each yr it has some winter kill. The bush is about 8' tall.

How and when do I need to prune it? I feel like I need to prune out all the center suckers-- opening it up?? Not really sure. Thank you..

Growing up, we had a huge fig tree and my

parents NEVER pruned.... It was full of figs each yr but we lived in GA.
