Yes Bass ,I have the one from you(Cuttings) grew very well but is acting exactly like you said.
Also the sugar and flavor is low.Like you said i had two breba and they were very good.Regards

Sooo, ... how many Marseilles are out there???
Remember that Herman had some good words for the
'closed eye' Marseilles that Bass has/had. Is it
so, or is it just me being very confused (as usual).
Or maybe things have changed since then. I got
mine from EL (2002) and apart from its 'open eye'
that ants tend to go in, I am quite happy with it.

Have had my Marseilles for four years - the first two years I was not impressed, last year had a good breba crop, and this year had both a good breba and a good main crop. Mine was finished ripening by early September. The tree has remained small, less than six feet tall, with no pruning, and each year the fruit seem to get sweeter.
I purchased this tree from EL, but hasten to add that the fruit never get as yellow as the example they show in their cataloge. The first two years I was ready to dig it up for the trash pile, but it has gotten better every year since.....Elder

I agree with Elder, that some figs need time to fully mature.
Yes, so far mine has not been 'very' productive, willing
to wait... As for the skin, mine seem to be a
yellowish-green color, and if I am not mistaking it with
an other variety (maybe Kadota???), the ripe skin will
qiuckly turn into brownish patches (like a dead leaf)
if not harvested right away...

Well George i stay by it ,but with a twist.
This fig stay with a closed eye till almost ripe and it takes a very long time.Then suddenly opens eye and split every time if rain or not.
This is not the same fig you got.This got a yellow pulp with white thick meat next to skin.A bad fig for our climate.I allready dig mine out is waiting to be trown away,dam impostor.Your fig is white inside not yellow.Regards

Herman, that's exactly the fig that I have.
Looking at pix in the Edible Landscaping catalog, it seems so good and promising. it's gonna be heard to kill this tree though, it's about 12' tall.

Well Bass i think that the little rooted cutting you brought last time to me is the rea l Marseilles.That one had fruits exactly like George's in NJ has.White amber inside ,and not yellow.Remember the unknown you gave me???.The one you did not know anything about it,color etc.That one is a good fig posibly the corect White Marseilles.It had a few fruits this year and they were good Not excellent but good and it is got promise when will get older.Regards

I don't know 'which' Marseilles I have, but I like mine well enough that I plan to plant some more this year.
As for the ants - my granddaughter (she is now five) and I have learned that if you see ants around the eye, then the fig is ready to eat. We laugh a lot while we stand there and watch each other blow the ants off our figs.....Elder

Is Laturella from Paradise Nursery the same as Marseilles you guys are talking about?

Marseilles from E.L.Is not Marseilles from Italian Figs.I herd is a good fig.

jonathan: I checked the Paradise web and didn't see either Laturella or Marseilles listed. According to Figs4fun Condit says the two are the same, but McConkey of EL says not. Who knows?.....Elder
