Your seedling is going to be a dozy.. Very pretty. The UF's are my kinda dl. I especially like COA.. I have SB but no blooms yet. Lovely pix...Ellie

Course of Action is a great looking daylily, and I can't believe the eye color on Visual Intrigue -- so much prettier than mine!

So many pretties to choose from, I can't pick a favorite. But because of your photos of Robes For The Queen, Debra, I had to pick that one up last year. This year it's three fans (two when I got it) and it's sending up a scape. Yay! I had Fortune's Dearest in the spot RFTQ is now, but it failed to make it through the winter, and I wanted a purple with white teeth. So far, I'm happy with it. If I get a bloom on both it and Dracula at the same time, this one's pollen is going on Dracula (and maybe a few others...lol!). Karen

Lala - Anastasia was one of Jeff Salter's first registrations. A lot of hybridizers used it, but it seldom passed on the the pinched throat/pleated petals look. Salter did a few more with the effect, like ENCHANTED ELEGANCE and NIGHT MIST, but the pinched-throat look was not consistent. People who bought those cultivars expecting the pinching only got it occasionally. Kirchhoff used Anastasia and got Dragon King - beautiful and enduring, but no pinching in the throat. Moldovan got several registrations out of Anastasia, but no pinchers. Almost a decade later, John Peat, using ELIZABETH SALTER, got the pincher FRAZIER RIVER RUN. During the 90s, the buying public became obsession with eyes and edges and gold edges, so most hybrizers turned their focus toward those areas. Curt Hanson was the only hybridizer who relentlessly kept chasing the Anastasia look. Meanwhile, Dan Hansen has two registrations with pinching in the throat. He told me that was not a trait he was aiming for. It happened by accident. Bell introduced Once Upon A Dream as a sometimes pincher. So far it hasn't pinched for me, but I'm still hopeful. Debra

Thanks to all the beautiful blooms. I went out yesterday and got a 1 gallon size Karl Rosenfield peony for $15. It's young and has not bloomed nor does it have any buds. For that price, I can wait! I ran out of time and was unable to put it in the ground today. Thanks to the picture of Claire's Knock Out rose, I went out today and got one for $11.50. It's a left over from last year and very leggy. The woman who takes care of the plants there told me to prune it 'back hard' and 'feed it' once a week or every other week to force it to grow more stems and leaves. Oh, I should have taken a before and after picture. I have to say that it's awful looking right now. After pruning, I re-potted it in a 3 gallon container. I think it will stay in the pot to recuperate and grow. I will plant it in a couple of months. Or, should I just winter the whole pot in the garage and plant it next spring? -Tina

pixie lou, I love the bright white of the shasta daisies. The nasturtium is a nice color. Do you start from seeds each spring? PM2, my patch may not be big enough. I just started last year with 3 plants. As for bees, I don't have many. I don't know why. Could be that the last owner used 'many chemicals' as quoted from the next door neighbors. Could be because there were very few flowers when we first moved in....like 2 butterfly bushes and 4 poppies. BTW, the oakleaf hydrangea is beautiful. Claire, how does that Itea virginica smell? nhbabs, I like that Clematis 'Fascination'. terrene, thanks. My crazy dog has been scaring off all forms of wild life except for the occasional deer and cats. I planted some sunflowers and have been worried that the deer will find them. Putting a fence is not ideal since the sunflowers are in the front yard and they will be at least 5 feet tall. Debra, my Moonlit Masquerade has scapes that are still very short. You are way ahead of me on that one. I am not into spiders, but I may be converted if you keep showing pics like String Bikini. Your seedlings if beautiful! Congratulations.

Jan and Chris- Visual Intrigue does have an eye like that sometimes. It's certainly not an everyday occurence. I rarely get the kind of patterning I see in other people's VI photos, and that's always disappointed me. But I do get the pretty blue violet eye afer warm, humid nights.

Ann - I have two clumps of Moonlit Masquerade. One is blooming and the other does not even have scapes yet. The clump that is blooming gets more sun in the early spring and is more sheltered from frost. MM is always one of my first bloomers.

Kay - It's taken three years for String Bikini to bloom. I had almost given up on it. But the blooms have been nicer than I imagined they would be. The blue lavender color is there in subdued morning light. Later in the harsh sun, the color looks more pink than lavender.

Rita - I got a chuckle from your String Bikini comment. I'm sure that was Stamile's thought when he named it. I have it planted near Speedo in the garden. LOL

I'm not usually fond of the spiders but that String Bikini is amazing. Let me know if you ever want to do a trade. What a looker! I agree, it has as much substance as one of my little sisters string bikinis.
