Is song sparrow a good vendor?

I was wondering if song sparrow is a good place (on-line) to buy daylilies. They seem to have a nice selection and also a clematis I was hoping to get in the Spring.

But I have not ordered from them before....

I've heard they are excellent. Pricey, but very good quality from what I've heard. (I think it's Klem's song sparrow, right?).

Roy Klehm of Song Sparrow sends excellent plants. I've bought from there for the past four years. The daylilies and other perennials I've received are outstanding quality and very well-packaged.

Flowergardener, I've only begun to purchase from Song Sparrow Nursery, but was very pleased with my first three buys (last spring.) They all grew and bloomed well, for their first year in my garden. Klehm's sends large fans w/huge root systems! I'm always looking for late bloomers to extend my blooming season, so bought these: Intense Orange Gold. The picture doesn't show the true intensity. Savannah Sparrows

Angie: I didn't really see much yellow near the eyes but my local bird guru from the Manomet Center said that the yellow lores are often indistinct and that the plumage varies greatly between individuals. He also saw a Savannah Sparrow yesterday in Manomet, about 6 or 7 miles north of me. They were here again today although the sun wasn't. Here are the two Savannah Sparrows with a White-throated Sparrow and a bunch of Dark-eyed Juncos. I'm hoping they stay around for my next Project FeederWatch count which starts on Monday. That nyjer seed path really attracts sparrows (and turkeys). I saw an American Tree Sparrow there this morning also. I started broadcasting the nyjer because I have a few hanging nyjer feeders there for the goldfinches and I noticed mobs of small birds underneath the hangers. Claire

Tim it's nice to have someone "listen" to advise. You do need to get that box off the post or you will be posting next week that your babies disapeared. It happens all the time, someone comes in for advice, doesn't listen and then are back asking what went wrong. So glad you are working on doing the safe thing! I would put the pole 10 ft from the fence being sure there are no trees or bushes that something could jump on the box from. Be sure to have the hole face in the same direction it is now. In this heat I am sure your babies are going to really need the vent holes. Take whatever you have on the old box and put it on the new box. Be sure to get the baffel on the pole too. Once this is all done take a pancake flipper and a shallow bowl or box to transfer the nest safley. Mom and Dad will hear the babies and find them but be sure to do this when you have time to sit back and watch the box to be sure they DO accept it. Good Luck! OH BTW be sure you are tracking how old they are so you don't look in after day 13 AND to know when they may be fledging....you don't want to leave your Dog out during that time.

Ah geez, you're right. It happens that I took pictures of an adult song sparrow and an adult (female) house finch this afternoon, also, and I managed to confuse myself. I've only seen a song sparrow go to the feeder once; most of the time it's on the ground under the feeder. I guess I just wanted it to be a song sparrow. It was the eye that misled me more than anything else. I expected it to be more pronounced in a house finch. But I just have looked more closely at the shape of the beak. I guess there's no way to fix a topic title here, is there. Thanks, Dave

Yes, Klehm's Song Sparrow is a very good place to get plants. They have different ones and excellent quality.

Yes, a bit expensive, but you will get huge fans with large root systems. Excellent northern hardy plants!

Pricey, but one of the best places to get Brother Charles Reckamp's cvs. The DLs I got from them this year were excellent large plants, and I've had a couple of good experiences with their clematis.

I haven't bought daylilies from them (yet!), but I've bought peonies and shrubs from them a couple times. They send the best quality, and their packaging is second to none. Their plants have performed very well for me, so I would think their daylilies would be just as good.

I bought from Klehms for the first time this year. I got Apricot Serenade & Garden Symphony and was pleasedwith size.But they are a little more expensive. But some are theirs exclusively.

RED RAZZMATAZZ is listed "mid - Late" blooming season. Mine has scapes but not starting to bloom yet.

It is a good increaser also.
