Anyone know of a nursery that sells 'smith' figs?

Looking for a "smith", but can't seem to find one at any of my normal nurseries. Any help is appreciated.

Good luck on that one! I had a small Smith but managed to murder it this year.

A recent post indicates that Mr. James Robin has them. I've purchased figs from him he is very reputable and is an extremely nice gentleman.

I wish I would have looked at reviews for Smith Nursery in Sherman Oaks, CA before purchasing from them. I ordered 2 Tartarian dwarf cherry trees from them in April 2012. I called them after receiving the trees as I was concerned because all the roots had been cut back and it had buds on that were already dead. They told me all would be ok and to go ahead and plant them. At 30 days I emailed them to let them know that I wanted a replacement because neither produced any growth. Long story short, after numerous emails/calls they agreed to replace the trees and told me to call back in the fall. I've been trying to contact them for weeks now. All calls are played a greeting saying they're closed and no message taken. Numerous emails have yielded no response whatsoever. They sucked me in with low prices but this is another case where you get what you pay for. They took my money and ran laughing all the way to the bank. I'm going back to Stark Bros for all future purchases as I've had great success with them...they just got a little pricey.

It's odd but the CA growers tell me when the cuttings are dormant and the seedlings are vigorously growing, this is the best time to graft. I've tried when the seedlings were not really going at the time and all failed miserably. My current ones seem to be taking off so far. I've had some seedlings in the past that did not care much for the humidity in the greenhouse. Most seem to be adapting to it now. On a side note...I'm not one to normally hoot about store-bought fruit...especially any exotics coming to us here in Ohio. But I will stand up and yell loud that the cherimoya I had last night was freaking unbelievable! If someone would have even walked near me while I was eating, I probably would have growled and snapped at them. Damn, it was good. But at $4.49/lb, that just drives my wife crazy!

It's listed as available on James Robin's inventory. See message a few posts down regarding his figs for sale.

Also Just Fruits and Exotics has it listed.

This nursery has a fig named Smith according to them a Louisiana Heirloom , they are taking fall order and ship next month.
I never have ordered from them so dont shoot the messenger. ; )

Thanks, I saw the just fruits and exotics list, but the $15 box fee is making me hesitate. I guess I might just have to find a few more plants to spread out the fee.

Fignut, did you have any issues with RKN from James Robin. I read some old posts about him having a problem with them and I have way too many plants to take a chance. Hopefully everything is straightened out now

An order I placed in 2006 had a plant or two that was infected (out of nine trees). But that was before he changed his growing procedures. I got some from him last year and all were fine. He ships bare root and it's easy to see if there is a problem. But I'd check any plants coming in, especially from areas where nematodes are common.
