Everything's coming up roses

So Oliver was born right smack in the middle of rose season and I've missed much of it because he's so gosh darn adorable and sweet. Already at just 6 days old he has stolen all our hearts and as beautiful as the roses are, Ollie is far more enticing and I am neglecting my gardens. I did tear myself away from him while his mama was feeding him and went outside after the rain and took these pictures. There are so many things blooming now that I can't keep up with photos and soon the daylilies will be blooming so I hope I can manage to keep up somewhat. He sure is a distraction....lol.

The antique roses are the most beautiful, IMHO. This is centifolia Variegata'.....

This is the gallica 'Duc de Guiche'.....

Left rose border by the road....Couldn't get it all in one picture.

for those of you who liked my mountain laurel, here are more......(No, I don't know names since I've had these for ages and never labeled them).

Now for some of the modern roses....
This is the outstanding winter-hardy Buck rose 'Quietness'. She is hardy to the tips here and is always beautiful.

I planted her right alongside the steps up to the front deck....She stands over 6 feet tall.

The hardy Explorer rose 'Frontenac' in the background and Kordes 'Lupo' in the foreground provide lots of pink....

This is the Austin rose 'The Generous Gardener' which is a small climber here.

some hot-colored gazania are blooming....

BTW, I hate the 'new' Photobucket! It took me forever to get these up. Ugh.

Love the mountain laurel and just love, love, love that front yard rose border that you have. That must stop traffic it is so beautiful. The gazania is a great color, I love that hot orange. The roses are all beautiful as is your new grandson.

Here on the east coast we had about 7 freeze thaw cycles and I expected more of a loss than I had. The only ones I've noticed have been about 5 Buddleias grown from seed last year. There's lots more so not to worry. The Dartmoors are the ones which didn't return so those are out for my gardens. I also lost two established Blue Poppies out of five but have a whole bunch of new seedlings of them coming up, so again, that's OK. What I don't like is these new Echinaceas which die on you like crazy. I bought Sunrise and Sunset last year and both are really struggling to come back. There's a whole post about this new series on the Perennial Forum and how they are failing our gardens unlike the old great varieties. Bonnie, I'll stick with the weedy one anyday! :O) Oh, and I lost 3 Junipers! Yes, Junipers! That was tough. I have to do something about them and am not quite sure where to start. Might use them as climbers for Morning Glories this year until I figure this one out. They were the Skyrockets - grow straight up.

Mmmmm.....so much beauty!! It's good to see roses again, especially Paul Neyron! Mine are getting geared up for the show late next month. I have had PN for as long as I can remember and it is a rose to die for. The blooms are HUGE and smell wonderful and the color is outstanding. This winter I lost several roses and daylilies. I don't know what was so different about this winter that caused it. My PN was wiped out to the ground. It was once a huge bush but now has to start from scratch so it won't be it's usual showy self. But at least it made it. I have never lost an old rose, just the modern ones. Your daylilies are so pretty! (except for the one ugly duckling...LOL). Celeste

Mr. Oliver is adorable. I can understand him outshining even such beautiful roses. All of the roses are gorgeous, but the Gallica really catches my eye. the mountain Laurels are stunning. Love them all. The Japanese Beetles have been all over my roses. Hate them!

Kay, the japanese beetles will soon be starting here. They always show up around the 4th of July. I only get 2 weeks of roses before the beetles make their annual appearance and from then on they destroy them. They are the most despicable things on the planet.

Oliver should be getting the attention. He is so tiny and precious! All of your roses are lovely, and I love the mountain laurels. The picture of your border is very impressive. You've done a very nice job putting together the roses and companion plants.

Update on Oliver: he had his 1st checkup yesterday at 6 days old and has already gained a pound! The jaundice is moving out of his little system and he is doing great. Absolutely the sweetest, quietest baby I've ever seen! There will be more rose photos forthcoming in the next few days as everything is popping. We had a huge thunderstorm yesterday so right now everything is floppy and ragged so will try taking pics tomorrow.

wow, celeste. the roses are beautiful,and that rose border is gorgeous, too,and this is my first Larels to see. didn't know they flower like this, absolutely beautiful. glad you coud tear your self away from the grandson lns enough to take a few pictures for our injoyment, but don't take too lone to get these pictures. you don't want to miss a minute of the grandson. They grow up so fast.hes adorable.
