Anyone willing to give me some cuttings?

Hi,
I am new to this site and new back to NJ. I live in northern new jersey and am looking to start growing some fig trees in my yard. I LOVE figs and it's starting to eat at my bank account:).
I live in Northern NJ but will travel. I will be in piscataway tomorrow. If anyone has a successful tree and could help me out, it would be much appreciated!

I would give you all you want but I am in Texas. My tree is probably around 75 years old. It was planted when the house was built in 37. Not sure how well it would do up there though.

If you send me a stamped envelope I can send you a couple of varieties that will actually do well in your climate. Pears aren't the easiest fruit to get up the sugar up north so you need to grow the right ones. Bartlett will be reliable where you are. You might as well grow Seckel instead of Warren because it's a better setter of fruit of similar flavor- fruit-set can also be a problem with pears. Aurora is good and Sheldon can be fantastic for a lover of Comice. Comice is a more southern variety and I don't like northeast Anjous either- they don't get enough sugar here. I highly recommend Harrow Sweet but I have no wood to offer this year. I do have Harrow Delight which is a very productive Bartlett type, but bears in early-mid Aug when I'm not much interested in pears. I don't have time to run to the post office so tell me how much weight I can put into a stamped addressed envelope and I'll give you a sampler.

Roger, Sugar apples prefer soil pH that is mostly alkaline between 7.0-8.0. At the bottom is a guide to growing them. It was written for the growing conditions in Florida but just make adjustments that suit your region. I feed mine a water soluble complete fertilizer 20-20-20 with minor elements every two weeks. To a gallon of water I mix 1 oz of water soluble fertilizer then I pour it at the base of the trunk. I start seeds in a pot with quality soil. when they are about 3 inches high I feed them a weak solution of the same water soluble fertilizer as above but I use 1/2 oz to a gallon of water. When they reach a foot high I plant them in the ground near a wind break. When I grow them using this system they bloom sooner. To make the plant branch out more, pinch back the tips periodically. Heehee, I took over the dining room for my quilting frame! We never used the dining room, anyway. I have an original Hinterberg frame. The ends are wood and the rails are 10' pieces of steel conduit. It can be moved intact, though it's a challenge moving something 10' long! It comes apart pretty easily - we moved it assembled into the garage for Christmas and after Christmas I took it apart and moved it one piece at a time back into the dining room and put it back together in about an hour. I have a 9" long Juki machine on the frame, and you can't quilt very much in one pass with it, though I don't quilt enough or sell my quilts in order to justify a bigger machine. You just learn to work with what you have! But I would say if your machine is any smaller than 9" you will be really frustrated trying to use it on a frame. There's a Yahoo group called Home Quilting Systems. The members of the group have all kinds of frame setups, so you should be able to get some information on the Grace frames. Hi Cathy, I am interested in trying to work a trade with you for your string of pearls plant and Jade cuttings . I have hoya carnosa , Bryophyllum daigremontianum ( aka Mother of thousands ) or rooted brugmansia cuttings to offer in trade. I dont know if you are willing to mail plants (its definitely too cold right now but later on in May it will be fine) or even if these interest you .Being that you are in Toronto if you would be willing to pick up in Mississauga ( my son and daughter in law live there) I could possibly get them down there to them .
