Great Caroline....Glad to hear you finally got some rain. We got a little also but not nearly enough, however, we've had a couple of cold fronts move in in the past two weeks and the cooler temps are such a blessing. Its beautiful today.

We should all pray that Hurricane Dean doesn't hit any of the United States. Looks like this one will be monster.

Caroline so glad you got some much needed rain. It just amazes me how much better the plants look after a rain no matter how small. We can water and water and water but nothing like the necter from God to bring back life into a garden. We had an all too brief shower .38 in the rain guage this AM - not a drought buster by any means but will certainly take most ANYTHING at this point

My thoughts and prayers are for all of you in Texas also. Y'all certainly don't need to have Dean bearing down on you. Keep an eye to the sky and ear to the radio.....

Caroline, I'm so relieved for you now that you've finally had a nice shower. I too dance in the rain, we are drought prone here in the Sandhills of Nebraska. We've had several small showers the past couple of weeks which has been enough to save the pastures for the cattle. Our temps have cooled too. They will steadily go down now for the rest of the season. The trees are starting to show bits of the fall colors that will come soon.

Caroline, I'm so glad you have finally got some relief from the terrible weather you've had. Not that we have had the dreadful time those of you in the south have had to deal with, we've had our share of problems too. Today it is raining buckets, coming down so hard it sounds like hail, not. I can hear the garden sighing a sigh of welcome relief. you can almost hear the soil reaching out to capture every precious drop.
The one thing I have learned from this past year is to mulch, mulch, mulch, a good layer of maple shavings on top of newspaper is going to be the name of the game for me. The part of the garden that did not suffer was mulched this way. Next year I'll be out there early on, getting as much mulching done as I can manage.
That hurricane sounds like it's going to be another nasty one, PLEASE STAY SAFE EVERYONE, I'm praying for gentle breezes and calm waters for all of you.

Vikki - yes the temps are better up your way.I am so glad for you all. We are back to 100 today. It isn't expected to get better for a while yet.

Lynne- you are right is always strange how a little rain goes a LONG way and lots of hose water doesn't.

MeMo- I knew you would be another rain dancer !! I hope you cont with the cooler weather.

Annette- mulch is definitely the key. I use small pine bark/nuggets.

I too hope that the rest of the season doesn't spawn any disasters. All my family is in N.O. and they have contingency plans to come here as they did for Katrina. I hope it is not necessary!! Stay safe everyone. Caroline

It felt good, didn't it? I didn't go outside, too much wind and lightning.
There was 1/2 inch here at the house and a whole inch at the hayfield .7 mile away.

We lost to wind a huge pecan limb in the back that will require machinery to move.

And we're back to hot and humid today.

We got 10 minutes of the tantalizing tease of rain yesterday, in tiny droplets. The cool breeze that accompanied the rain lasted about 5 minutes, but I drank in every drop.
Have decided that although DH loves Arizona, I will not go there. Possibly ever again, lol :0

Hot and humid again here today, I can't wait until the highs are only in the mid-90's. Neither can my garden.

I'm glad some of your gardens got some relief.

We didn't get a drop, though, and there is none in our forecast except for the tiny possibility of very short "pop-up" storms now and then. At least our high temps have dropped to the high 90s for a few days...no hundred + highs predicted till next week. Even this is a bit of a relief so I can only imagine how great your rain dance felt!

I share your joy with news of your rain. This afternoon around 3, it started raining here and lasted for about an hour. I had forgotten how good rain smells and sat on the porch taking it all in. Hopefully we all will soon get more rain and cooler weather.

Nell- it is HHH ...here today/tonight ! Hot , humid as Hell.

GGG- I sure wish you had gotten more than that !! We are going to Phoenix on Sept. 26-30. I have never been there to stay before. I am taking my trail shoes and plan on meeting a friend and running a lot. I hope it will be great.

Linda_ that is what we are back to now too. I hope you get relief soon. My plants are all wilted tonight...I didn't water today since I thought it was enough. Back to the hose tomorrow.
