Bristlecone pine - single trunk or multi?

I really like a larger Bristlecone at the local university (single stem) but the ones in the local garden center are all muti-stemed plants - they almost look more like a mugo pine.

Any comments on which way they look best - single or multi- stemmed?

They are now about 1.7 ft tall - how tall would they be in 10 years?
