Name that fig :^)

Three years ago I took some cuttings from a tree in a friend's Ocean City Maryland backyard. Ocean City is a barrier island directly east of Washington DC on the Atlantic shore. This tree is quite large by Maryland standards, never required covering and produces two abundant crops of figs each year. The tree is quite old. As it was planted by a prior owner of the house, no one had any information of it's source. Today was my first opportunity to harvest a fig from one of my propagated trees ... it was fantastic. I had thought that this tree was just another Brown Turkey ... it is not. A direct comparison of the leaves was close (the unknown was a bit broader) ... but the fruit was very different. The unknown's fruit is smaller and almost as round as a golf ball. The fruit was quite sweet with a unique flavor ... not bland like a BT.

And you say the tree is old . . . boggles the mind.
If your friend wants to swap cuttings for something else (all rooted up) I'm game.

Parent tree age == better than 20 years. Single trunk, 15' high, a good 15' wide. Due to the sandy soil and generally poor beach growing conditions the tree is much smaller than it's age would otherwise dictate.

I have three trees growing in my area (2 in-ground and 1 in a container) as a result of cuttings I took in 2005. These trees are very vigorous and rapid growers.

Would be happy to send cuttings if you are interested in experimentation.

I don't have a lot of experience with different fig varieties, but plumfan was kind enough to give me a really fine specimen of a Desert King fruit. I like fruit on the sweet side, but I found this Desert King too sweet for my tastes. I hadn't thought that was possible.

You may be absolutely beseiged with requests for cuttings, and I'm (almost unashamedly) getting in line right away with a "pretty please". It'd be special to me, because as a teenager, I spent time with my family vacationing for quite a few summers at Ocean City, MD, back before it got over-developed and hyper-touristy, and the place has tonloads of memories for me (did some great flounder fishing with my dad down there... he's 90 and his memory's almost gone, but I almost think he'd remember OC and fishing if I mentioned it to him). I've already gotten my late aunt's Chincoteague fig (from her former summer house), which is an average-to-good-tasting Brunswick, but your OCMD fig looks like a pumped-up version of Hardy Chicago, and sounds delish. Please let me know if getting a couple cuttings would be okay (we don't want to end up asking you to prune the parent trees down to the ground in our enthusiasm :o) ).
