Help! Transplanting advice needed asap

First off, I apologize for my frantic tone. My dilemma is the following: I dug up a two 3' Douglas firs on my brother-in-laws property near Denver, CO and brought them back to Eastern Iowa w/me yesterday evening. They are still in the car, roots soaking in water, which has not yet frozen. It's 33 degrees here and there's about 6" of snow on the ground. Assuming the ground is frozen, do I plant them in large containers, water and put them in my unheated shed?

Or would they be better off outside in a raised bed, above grade w/a bunch of dirt and mulch piled over their roots? I'd really like to give them the best chance possible. Your advice is greatly appreciated!
