Ah my I simply adore dephs and yours are spectacular! They are sooo difficult here - basically annuals or maybe 2 years and I have to work them again.

You have given me incentive to try. Gorgeous!

Kathy, there are lots of plants I'd like that don't grow here. I just grow what I can.

Cindy, I adore delphs also altho they are not long-lived and I lost one last year and another this year. I think they were 5-6 years old. I did seed some late spring this year so will have more next year. Will try to direct sow some as well this fall. Hope you try some, they can be an impressive flower especially for background.

Thanks for posting the blue delphiniums. So lovely- and is that achemilla (sp) I see with the fleabane? I love that stuff. I grew it for about a month once, in a pot.

Hosenemesis, that is alchemilla (also one of my favs) with the fleabane altho it needs to be moved. I have it in several places altho finding it does better in less sunny spots so I'm moving them as I redo the beds. Here's another one in a shadier spot in my garden.

You know you make those of us in the deep south green with envy with those beautiful delphiniums. I love them, and I can occasionally get one to do okay, but it is the exception. Look how beautiful yours are massed there.

Kay, thanks and I feel the same about a lot of southern gardens I see, especially early spring when there's nothing blooming here. Guess there's no perfect place to garden. Could you grow annual larkspur? Same plant family with similar blooms.

Very pretty, all of them. The Lady's Mantle looks so refreshing with the droplets of water - esp. when I'm sitting here sweating like crazy in the heat. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Schoolhouse! I sometimes give those plants a little spray of water just because I enjoy seeing how it beads on the leaves. Hope you can stay cool, my trick when it's hot is to put a small wet towel around my neck. I know you can buy the ones filled with gel but I find a towel works well. I also deliberately walk thru the sprinkler often!

I think your peony is Festiva Maxima. Your delphs are lovely.

I agree with Flowergirl, I think your peony might be Festiva Maxima. You delphiniums are wonderful...do you have any secrets to keep them looking so nice? My mom's planting some delphiniums from Lowe's this weekend, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to pass them on to her :)

Thanks LL, my delphinium get little care, only alfalfa tea. To fertilize my garden I feed the worms and they give worm castings in return and they love alfalfa tea. I use the tea at least weekly (well diluted) on most heavy feeders and new plants. I bury my kitchen scraps in the garden since I don't want to attract our resident bear and the worms eat it up. I also make my own compost/mulch altho the dark delphs didn't get any this year.

Everything is very pretty and the light blue delphiniums are gorgeous!!! I only tried growing delphs once from purchased seed and got nothing. That might have been the year I tried WSing though, which didn't work well for me!

Wow, beautiful flowers. I especially love the Lady's MAntle and light blue Delph's.

Thanks PM. I seeded some purchased delph seeds this year and the germination rate was not high. Don't know if this is usual or not, everything else I seeded germinated well. So maybe delphs are difficult or we've both had old seed. I dunno. I plan to just keep trying and will also fall sow the seed from these delphs.
