These are great broms! One of the few full sun bromeliads as well, but treefrog's right- very sharp unforgiving spines.

Cindee, if someone tells me how to do it, I could pull one out/off ?? ...put it in a box and mail it to you..??? They ARE sharp but VERY pretty. One of the other ones that I have gets the bloom way down in the center...really pretty, too.

When the pups are about 2/3 the size of the mother plant, go down to the base of the pup. With a sharp knife cut the pup away from the mother with as much stem as you can get.

oh holy smokes, Cindee...do you think I could get them to grow??? If you have detailed (sub-kindergarten level) instructions, please send! I'm even thinking of making a special area for propagation...maybe a shelf unit just for the nursery????? But then...what to do with all the plants????

These broms are the easiest to grow of any I've ever seen.
I tore out a bed of them last summer (with a considerable loss of blood).
Many I trashed, many I gave away, many were left, tossed off to the side of a vacant area, not planted, ignored, and a lot of those are happily blooming away today. None died.
They'll grow in soil, out of soil, in sun or shade.
They are colonizers, sending out pups and fill an area quickly.
There's no need for a propagation area. Just snap off a pup or a slab of plants with some root and replant or give away.
I do like them, and have replanted some where they won't hurt me.
Keep in mind they bloom throughout the winter only, so if you want year-round color plant them near a summer bloomer.
And in a spot where it won't attack you! LOL

Know what, Cindee?? You really don't need to send a thing! And...guess what!!??? I think you just identified a lil something that I have growing...will have to check in the morning (or when the rain lets up, anyway!) I LOVE this lil plant and it seems to reseed everywhere...just like wildflowers! Just need to look at the leaves on mine to make sure it's the same one. I thought it was some sort of salvia, but didn't know which one......
