I put stone pathways in before doing any planting. Now that it's planted, you can't see it.

Here it is with planting:

I now am putting in this little sedum to fill the cracks so there is no room for weed seeds. It's nice, stays small, always looks neat, no blooms.

I've got lots more photos, but that should be a good start.

Mine is nothing perfect but I'd love to share, too. Mine pathway is made of stone, I had the builders put it in place before planting. It's winding through the entire backyard.

Xuan, I think you must be our sole Vietnamese contributor. Your gardens are really starting to show the results of all your hard work. I love how you combined smaller stones with concrete into good-sized rectangles. It's a simple but great idea. I'm always dragging carts around, so I now appreciate wide, flat permanent pathways so much better than I used to!

It's summer now, so my garden's a little tired. Haven't taken any pix in a month or so, and it's unseasonably cold and foggy today.

This is not my yard but a landscape I designed and we recently installed. We used large chunks of our native Utah sandstone which has such a gorgeous color. Obviously, the plantings need to fill in more but you get the idea.

Sand is a good base for laying stones and bricks. It is easier to level than earth. There are heavy strips of metal, which are about six feet long and four inches wide. I don't know what they are called. They can be used for keeping stones and bricks in place. The man who laid my curved brick paths used them to keep the bricks tightly together, so there would be no drifting.

He laid the bricks on top of sand, after he used a large size level to make sure he had created a flat surface with the sand. He also swept sand across the top of the brick to fill in any small crevices. It has been three years since the paths were laid. No weeds have been able to pop up between the bricks.
