Roses smushed in among the rest?

For those of you who grow roses in your garden, do you find you have to almost grow them separately and give them lots of space from their neighbors or are they "hugged" by your other plants? I would love to add some more roses besides my Knockouts but my garden is getting pretty full and it would be tough to give the a lot of space all to themselves.

I am also thinking of ripping out some Spirea along the West side of our foundation and putting in some roses. They would be in shade until afternoon. Would it be foolish to plant roses there? I have New Dawn climbing on an archway on the West side and it's fine but it's not up against the house. I also have a rescue rose, some kind of HT I think planted near the house and it seems to like it fine.
