Figs at longwood gardens, Pa

I took a trip to Longwood gardens, in Pennsylvania. I was impressed by the different varieties of figs they have. Is the white marseille the same as Marseille?

That Jolly Tiger looks nice, but I just cant get myself to buy one for ~$100. Great pics.

I though Jolly tiger had variegated leaves. The one in the photo didn't have any, and I was looking closely to the tree. It's actually $125 for a 4" pot. It's definitely not worth it. I can get a variegated plant for $5 at home depot.

We're pretty far apart unfortunately but I'll keep your request for ferns in mind if Im travelling in the Philly area in the near future. Occ we make a daytrip to Hamburg, PA, for my husband's business so that may be an option, too. One add'l thought I had: you might be able to find Christmas "fern-ettes" at a local Lowes -- I've seen a few different Lowes stores selling dormant nubs of all kinds of ferns incl. xmas in little cellophane 3"x3" packets on a display in their houseplants section. I was skeptical about the viability but danged if the ferns didn't do well once potted up. I have several nice Maidenhairs, Spleenworts, Royals, Cinnamons, etc sprouted. That may be an option for you, too, if you can't find anyone to trade with.

Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA and the North American Clivia Society is hosting a Clivia Show and Symposium from 3/17-20. Last year, Cinnamonson Nursery carried Black Mission, Brown Turkey and Kadoota. It's right across the bridge (sort of) from Philly. You may want to send Al (Italianfigtrees.com) an email if you are interested in one of his trees. I think it maybe a bit early for him, but it is worth a shot. Rare Finds Nursery (I think that is their name) carried Peter's Honey last year. They are way overpriced. ~james

Nope Leon no Jolly Tiger in those pictures and it does have a mix of regular and variegated leaves which makes it look different.
Total cost for a 3.5 inch pot delivered is 145.00

NOWADAYS, one could get ANY, any, any plant in the leaf varigated form!
I guess a natural sport or an artificially stimulated one.
The BIG question... what was the original specimen source.
Not to be confused with the very uniquie Panachee fig,
which produce both varigated (young) twigs and (constant)
fruit; but NOT leaves.... which has also REVERTED...

...As my old variegated-leafed hosta plants did.

Good question, im going to try and find out.
How old were you Hostas when they did this, i hope mine do not do this as they kind of break up the greenery where they are at with the others.
I have seen others in the old neighborhood that stood variegated luckily i suppose.

heres what i was told when i called this morning about Jolly Tiger

I called nursery that sells Jolly Tiger and asked how it came about and this is was i was told. Five or Six years ago they found a mutant branch growing like this on what is called a tiger fig in Japan, i asked if what they called the source a tiger fig a actually a Panachee fig and he responded that he was not positive as nursery's have different names used. I asked if it will keep its variegated form and he told me one should cut the branch back to the last variegate leaf and it will send out more of the same if that means anything not sure. This was the extent of our conversation this morning.

BTW, did I read this right? $140 for a 4 inch potted fig? HUH? Is it just for the variegated leaf form and not even for the quality of the fig?
