PA/NJ Fig Tree Nurseries

I have REALLY been researching for a nursery in the Philadelphia area that may sell fig trees and the two I seem to have heard of in NJ are Paradise and Italian Fig Trees of NJ but I cannot find any recent info of either of them. Anyone happen to know of a place in this general area so I can take a look and purchase via having shipped from the south??? Thanks to all!!!

There is an Italian Fig Tree Nursery in Boston that ships nice trees at a good price. www.figtrees.net/

I have purchased trees from them and I was well satisfied.

I live in AZ and I picked up a 5' branched Black Mission in a 5Gallon pot for $ 19.00 which is the norm for all common figs here. Its been re-potted and put into a 25gallon tree pot and is already leafing out. There were a lot of crappy trees there for the same price too. It really pays to go and pick out the best tree out of 25+ plus trees rather than getting whatever fits the best in a shipping box.

Hi Rich, If you are near Philadelphia, there's a small, hidden family nursery in the northeast section. They have fig trees (and lots of unique plants). They have a short season, running from around Easter to July 1st. They're recovering from a fire a few years ago, but this gem is worth the trip. Dan, A few years ago while in Philly I spent some time going through the Italian open air market area of town. There where two what I will call store fronts that I saw selling potted fig trees. The prices where great. I Have not been there since so I can't say for sure that you will find fig trees there now -- but it may be worth a look see. The garden center Loretta is talking about in Rockland County is probably Matterhorn Nursery in Pomona, NY. Only about a mile off the Palisades Parkway. Their plants tend to be expensive but they have a HUGE selection, and a lot of display gardens, bookstore, etc. Well worth a trip just to look at things, and I never come away completely empty handed... The Metro Plant Exchange in Fort Lee has a more interesting selection of houseplants than most of them do - apparently they have a guy there who is into odd plants - I've gotten some interesting Sansevierias and Hoyas there on occasion. It's worth a stop just to look, too. Only a couple blocks from the GW bridge and they have their own parking lot, so it isn't much trouble to just swing by... WW

Tractor Supply had Chicago Hardy, Celeste and Brown Turkey cultivars. Some stores might still have them. You have to call around. Lewistown store has nice plants in 2 gallon pots for $26.99 which should produce this year. Would suggest you get dormant cuttings locally in the early spring next year and wrap them in moist paper towels in Ziploc bags. Worked for me. Many videos on YouTube demonstrate how easy it is. "You Bet Your Garden" website has archived answers. Trees of Joy is good, but Bass must be overworked as he's slow to answer. Check with local Italian clubs or churches. "If you ask, you will find."

Last year, Cinnamonson Nursery carried Black Mission, Brown Turkey and Kadoota. It's right across the bridge (sort of) from Philly.

You may want to send Al (Italianfigtrees.com) an email if you are interested in one of his trees. I think it maybe a bit early for him, but it is worth a shot.

Rare Finds Nursery (I think that is their name) carried Peter's Honey last year. They are way overpriced.

Lowes in Philly is now carrying small fig trees. There is a nursery in Philadelphia called Bisiri Pansy House ( Bisirri Pansy Gardens 4600 Emerson Street - Philadelphia, PA. 215-333-6755) which sells larger fig trees cheap. Primex Nursery in Glenside sells figs trees which are a bit more expensive but their stuff is top notch.

Edible Landscape is not all that far south from you folks and Mike does have a lot of good fig trees to sell.
I had a chance to visit that place a few years back and he has some very good nursery stock.
