Stella's Ruffled Fingers (photos)

I've been really enjoying everyone's photos and I finally have some to share. B.J. Crichton, the hybridizer of Stella's Ruffled Fingers, belongs to our daylily club and she gave me a pot of it at our picnic last fall. This spring it was the first daylily to have scapes. Its first bloom was yesterday, but it was deformed - today it has two good blooms:

(the white residue on the leaves is from Liquid Fence, which is working against the deer so far)

Lucky you and what a nice flower. I like how the colors seem to change when going from shade to sun.
Definite to put on the "want" list.

Excellent photos, Juliet!

I'm continuously amazed at how different the blooms look from what I see on Venders sites. I've seen it pictured as a pastel pink. But on my monitor, your first two show as a pastel peach. The third, which I like the best, shows a melon color.

How exciting to see new DLs blooming in your own garden!

I have Black Eyed Stella which is an early bloomer here,many scapes and buds, increases quickly. I have many Stella De Oro clumps here as I kept dividing and replanting in different areas. Very long bloom period. I also have Stella Supreme which is just okay and will have a long bloom period but not a blooming machine like Stella de Oro.I don't have Mini Stella. I also have Rudy Stella. Black Eyed Stella Stella Supreme - only pic I have is in full sun. Stella de Oro Good luck with your search Julia

I'm really liking this one. It bloomed early, despite being moved. Or maybe because it was moved? I've heard plants sometimes bloom in times of stress, maybe daylilies do too? At any rate, you can't tell from the bloom that there was any stress. Of course, I just dug it with a big clump of dirt, so it shouldn't even have noticed it. Looks like it will be a week or so before I see any other blooms, but there are scapes everywhere.

I have so many lilies here and each year I just keep adding more as I do just love them. Those Tango lilies have been there for years now and put on a gorgous show each June. So I am glad people enjoy seeing them :-) Stellas Ruffled Fingers has been here for years but I have moved it and this is it's third spot. I knew this daylily was a real trooper for others but it just wasn't doing much blooming for me. But third time is the charm as it loves its spot now and is so loaded with buds and scapes. Sometimes sucess is just finding the right spot LOL!

Tim's Black Ruffles....and Lucky Cross

Thanks, Carolyn. I'm familiar with the history of Lucky Cross, and I've read a lot of rave reviews for its taste. I'm just hoping it works for me too, since most bicolors and yellows seem sort of bland to me. I like a tomato with "bite" to its taste. Still, I'll count myself "Lucky" if it does nothing else but outproduce what BW pink did for me last year. That was a fabulous tasting tomato...but nothing is worth growing for a single fruit in my book. I even tried ordering seed from another vendor this year, but it has to have been mislabled. It was supposed to be Brandywine Sudduth's, but it's a regular leaf plant, so it can't be the right seed. Guess I'll just have to write BW off as waste this year too. ::sigh:: From what I've read, Tim's Black Ruffles was a cross between a black tomato (Black Krim, I believe it was.) and Zapotec Pleated. Krim I grew and liked, but the other is completely foreign to me. All I knew about that one is that it was "ugly" which made it kinda' pretty to me. :) If I knew how to post pictures here, I'd show you what they look like. But I'm not that techno-savvy anymore. Yet these are the most interesting tomato plants I've ever seen. They are extremely healthy and robust so far, out performing any of my others which include some pretty well known ones like.... Hybrids... Brandy Boy Better Boy Big Beef Early Girl Fourth of July Sungold And my heirlooms... Arkansas Traveler Ananas Noir Caspian Pink Kellogg's Breakfast Old German Japanese Black Triefele Marianna's Peace WV Hillbilly Super Sioux Black Cherry Lime Green Salad Green Zebra ...And maybe a couple of others I can't think of right now. But like I said, Tim's is out doing all of them so far, leaving me just plain impressed. If it tastes as good as it grows, it'll be a keeper for sure! Thanks again, Lora

How exciting that you know B.J. Chrichton. I just love her flower. I had posted a few pics of it earlier, in a post titled FFO Bouquet.

Julie - For me this daylily is pastel peach, not pink (but a lot of daylilies that are supposed to be pink are peach for me.)

Lrae - I enjoyed your photos of SRF too. I like that it flowers so early and several people told me that it reliably reblooms and increases quickly, so I'm very happy Mrs. Crichton gave it to me!

I had three blooms on it today and was able to get a better photo than yesterday:

I think she's such an amazing flower. I'm glad to hear that she increases quickly, even if I do have 2 pots of it!

Its such a pretty daylily. I tried to get pictures of mine but my shots were aweful. The thing that surprised me is that that the plants are small. I guess I am just used to those big TET monsters :-))

I tried to find a picture but would you believe with all the pictures I took this summer of my daylilies, I don't seem to have a picture of this one.
