Do my fig trees need anything now?

I have two very large established fig trees that were heavy with fruit last year when we made an offer on our house. They're maybe 40 years old (last pic I've found with them) and both bore fruit evenly last year. They cut one back pretty significantly before we purchased (it needed it) and this year it has nothing on it. Is that normal???? Or should I be giving it some love????

You probably cut off everything that would have produced a breba crop (1st crop). Hang in there and if you have a variety that will put out 2 crops a season, you'll have a crop of figs at the end of summer. Hopefully you don't have a Desert King....thats a breba only fig in your area.

Hummm let's see...It appeared to me (from last year) that the figs only produce in the late summer/fall (they were harvesting when we made the offer on the house around Labor day and continued to do so for a bit). So perhaps I have breba only figs....

I posted this question in another thread, but just in case you don't see that, the other one is full of fruit, which has been on the tree all year through the winter (no leaves, just the little figs). Is this a clue???? LOL (If there is a way to tell what kind of fig I have please clue me in heh heh)

Thanks so much for helping out! We bought a home with an incredible garden that I have to cut back quite a bit (because the former owner had four staff in the garden and I have ummmm me). The figs and some of the older plants are dear to me, even if I don't know what they are LOL So I want to do right by them.

OK I posted a question about my fig trees in another thread, but this one raises more questions (dang I need to learn about figs!) One of my trees is bare (no leaves etc). The other is bare of leaves but has had little figs on it all winter. Lots and lots of them....will that reduce this year's crop? Arghhhh this danged garden is going to get the best of me LOL Do fig trees look different depending on the type??? If I posted a pic of my two would it be easy to tell the difference or is it impossible given they're bare.... It's pretty mild here (pacific northwest) but we did have some pretty cold temps this winter (for here...my other house is alaska so in comparison it's warm always here LOL) Would those have damaged the crop?????

Nice looking trees. Are you going to give them any winter protection? If you get die back over the winter you may want to consider growing them in bush form instead of tree form.

It will be just fine with seven fruits. Make sure the soil is neutral,not acidic,if acidic add limestone powder or granulated,in order to neutralize soil,to PH 7. Then the fig tree will love you and produce the sweetest fruit known to mankind. Happy gardening!
