Background: I bought a very small Valencia Orange from Stark Brothers two years ago (along with an order of fruit trees). First year was strickly indoors, not the greatest growth. This last summer I moved it outside. I purchased a lemon and a lime from Home Depot during a trip to CA (they had Four Winds tags on them) and brought them back to Utah. Care: They seemed to be doing okay, and I fertilized all with a citrus fertilizer when I got home in August. I moved the orange to a larger pot at about this time, using a pot I had similar in size to the ones from HD/Four Winds, but the orange isn't nearly as large, but lots more leaves. When I moved them into a sheltered area (no direct sun) to prepare them for winter, the lemon lost all of its leaves - may have also been a lack of watering issue as well. At any rate, I moved them to the garage next to a north-facing window and the lemon produced all new leaves. A few weeks later, the lemon and orange produced quite a few blossoms. Of course, the blossoms quickly dropped, but the orange has continued to blossom with one or two here and there after I moved it near a second floor south facing window. Analysis: I thought the blossoms came because of the changes in settings (cool/cold to warm) as if it was going into spring? At any rate, it was my first use of a citrus fertilizer and the first time that the orange had blossomed in the two years I've had it.

No. They are pretty sheltered where they are, and they have a good layer of mulch. We don't get much snow or frost where I am located. We did have one hard freeze that knocked them both back a bit last winter, but they survived with very minimal damage. For good measure, I always take a few cuttings each year, just in case! :)

I am so sorry. I don't know a thing that'll decrease the grief of losing someone or the initial pain. & in a way I think that we all need to go through that fire because, as Queen Elizabeth said after 9/11, grief is the price we pay for love. The deeper the love, the deeper the grief. Your grandchild is the next link in your son's chain of life. *********************************************************** My own experience with loss & grief has given me some perspective on practical things, such as: don't expect that you will function as you did before, at least for the first year or maybe more. Go easy on yourself; don't make demands of yourself. Know that you'll have mostly dark days for a while, & that your grief will 'sneak attack' you. You'll think everything's going fine, & you'll burst into tears. Let them flow. Don't make any life changes for at least a year, & I would guess 2 years would be better, given the closeness of the relationship. We just aren't in full control of our moods for at least a year, & our moods trump our brain's logical process, so don't do anything for at least a year. Don't sell the house, don't buy a condo or a motor home or a boat, don't sell all your stocks & clean out your bank account & move to Tahiti, don't, if you're divorced or widowed, date. at all.
