Comments (3)NEVER!!! ... never.. fertilize a stressed plant ... there is a problem between the roots ability to pump water.. and the plants need for said water ... there is no way in heaven.. that fertilizer.. or a soil amendment is going to change that ... now.. that said ... seriously.. did you really think you were so supreme.. that you might not lose one???? ... heck .. i planted hundreds of conifers.. and i expect one in 10 to die ... dig it up.. and find out why it died.. either it was an improperly dug ball and burlap .. or something went wrong in the pot.. or the soil in the hole ... or amendments.. or you are not watering deeply into the root mass ... plan on buying a replacement in fall .. when new stock comes in ... if you care for a full analysis.. please include any information you have beyond they are yellow.. full planting procedure.. soil type.. winter/spring and this summer ambient weather ... how big they were.. pot/BB ... any other info .... pls define exactly what your watering protocol was ... and it would be nice to know where you are .... are you in the heat wave.. and a picture for sure.. as whaasy asks .. ken...See MoreEmerald or Techny arborvitae?
Comments (2)there are a lot of good yellow tinged arbs .. like george washington, yellow ribbons, sunkist, ...etc ... as well as some real neat ... cham obtusa and c. pisifera .... that will lend diversity of type, as well as color , texture , etc ... but most are not going to be found at size ... let alone found locally .... if it were me.. i would consider a line of greens at the property line 4 to 6 feet apart .. and 3 to 5 feet in toward you ... i would put a second line of on opposing points ... with the blues.. the filifera .. the yellows.. etc .... i can picture it in my mind... but am having a hard time describing it ... did it make sense???? ken pix of a few options ... you have to do the research if they are viable in your zone ... Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Variegated' Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Vintage Gold' Chamaecyparis pisifera filifera 'Lemon Thread' Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Blue Sport'...See MoreWhat's wrong with the emerald green arborvitae?
Comments (20)On the Strike 3 label I found mention of "for controll of woody plants" a few pages in. Also there are the usual warnings about drift and not spraying if winds excede 10 mph. My wild guess is some got on your trees due to wind or spray error. Totally a guess. Really it seemed listed as a systemic but with all the overspray warnings I figure contact must not be good for plants. Guys, what was that spray which one of them companies in the north is discovered is killing some trees? Was in the paper months back but my google skills are failing me. Is that a pretty normal treatment plan? I am not in a suburb so this lawn love stuff is alien to me. Here is a link that might be useful: strike 3 store with label...See MoreEmerald Arborvitae turning yellow
Comments (20)So I got caught outside in a rainstorm this weekend and since I was already soaking wet, went down the line to look at what was happening. Turns out that tons of water was pooling up between the sod and the arbs in question. So I did a couple things: - cut out a couple of channels to let the water drain. - then I dug out the 5 in question and moved them down the line, and replaced them with 5 extra arbs I had in a test area (they were extras and I didn't know what to do with them). The arbs I dug out had a crappy root system compared to the ones in the test area. One thing is that the ground along the line where these were was really sandy below and rocky - tough ground for the first 8 inches. I dug it out and softened it up and will see: - If they new 5 will haven any problems. For the older 5, if they survive, that's great. If they don't, I'm OK with that too....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
