seed stratifying

monkeytreeboy15

I've been collecting cones from various conifers over the last month or two. Last year, I had some noble fir seeds I tried to cold stratify in peat moss in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, the seeds began to mold before their appropriate 30 days of cold stratification. Is there a certain sterile sand I should use to keep the seeds from molding this year and if so, where could I purchase it? The seeds I hope to grow are:

Abies lasiocarpa

Abies pindrow

Abies procera

Pinus aristata

Pinus pinaster

Sciadopitys verticillata

Tsuga diversifolia

Tsuga yunnanensis

Thank you for any stratifying instructions or tips!

Regards,

-Sam
