Lots Of Blooms & Lots Of Rain

I could see yesterday evening that I would have a lot of blooms today. Made big plans to get up early, take pictures and then get some work done outside before it got so hot. Wouldn't you know it would start raining at 7am? Was able to get a few pictures before. Please ignore the weeds in some of the pictures.

Supposed to be raining here again tomorrow. Guess the weeding will have to wait. Oh well, we do need it.

Beth, thanks for posting these pictures, as always. I see you got a Phyllis Diller also. Mine made it barely through our Easter freeze, but neither last year nor this year has it put out any new basal canes. It has just wanted to live off the one surviving cane. Has yours put out any new basals at all? It can be a nice rose. The color holds in the summer heat, but it would be nice if it got some new growth from the bottom. I do use epsom salts in the spring, but to no avail on this one.

An inch of rain in a week is nothing tomatoes can't handle if the soil has good drainage. Heck, Florida tends to get .5-1.5 inch every day with the afternoon thunderstorms. The soil and temperatures are key. Northern California has a tendency to have a similar (albeit warmer) climate to what we have in Seattle (it is the same bioregion). Temperatures tend to be more of a problem as long as the soil drainage is good.

Thank you all for the comments. I spent most of yesterday tackling the front edge of the rock wall garden bed but gave up before I reached the bench seat area. I did dig out a lot of small seedlings of rudbeckia, lychnis, coneflower (purple I think) and replanted into a back garden space. Not sure if they will take but time will tell. Nancy: I have about 5 maybe 6 of Lori's intros. They always perform well and really grow fast and tall. As you say, nothing real fancy but a good performer. I have to divide mine as they are monsters. signet: Jellyfish Jealousy is listed as a UF. Here is a pic from last year.

Maryl, Roy was sent as a gift plant not once but twice (!) by the same vendor one year. I am always wary of that practice “is this a bad plant?”, “is this a plant you want to get rid of?”, etc. However, it has really shown itself to be a really pretty soft orange that so far holds up pretty well. Debra, I do like Marietta Heartbeat. For me, it always opens without those early morning splotches so many purples are habit prone to do. Perhaps because it is just beginning to bloom-this was FFO-so it misses the heavy spring dew. It has also multiplied well in a bad spot. On the other hand, Here Lies Butch has always been a stagnant plant for me. I think Sherry has more luck with it.

WOW!!!!! These are all just gorgeous.I love them all, but would have to pick SILOAM SUNDAY MUSIC for my favorite in them.All so beautiful.

Thanks everyone! I was excited to have so many blooms yesterday. Just a little upset that I only got to see them for a few minutes before it started raining. At least I can look at the pictures.
Oliver just turned a year old in May. He is ROTTEN! I bought him at the flea market for $3. lol Wouldn't take a million for him now. Although DH thinks otherwise.
