Advice needed! Arranging daylilies in bed

Me again. The bed will have 14 daylilies and I need suggestions how to arrange them this time. . It's a sort of free form bed, sort of bean or kidney shaped of approx. 150 square feet. The daylilies I have are (2)_Emerald Splendor and 2 Glory Bright ( both yellows), 2 Flower Pot (light pink self), 3 It's a Miracle (It is described as cloud pink, but to me it's a light peach with a yellow border), (4 )Song in my heart (a deep rosy pink with a green throat one of my favorites!). and 4 blue eyed butterfly. What shape do you put them in? Someone said they do it random, but I read that colors together are very pretty but in what shape to do you put the similar daylilies. I could take a photo of the bed. At some point I may put a birdbath or something in the center, should I keep that space open?

I'd put the taller ones in the center and work out to the edges with shorter ones. I personally like colors together, but random is pretty too! Just don't put any clashing colors together.

Thank you,Sue! Most all of mine daylilies according to tinkers are 24 inches tall except for "Flower Pot" (28") and "Song in my Heart" (26"). But all the others are 24 inches. Using your advice I'll put "Song in My Heart" in the middle as it's a tad taller and a brighter flower. Now where to place all the others which are same height and the taller later bloomer "Flower pot" (light pink).Flower Pot while a pretty flower is not as showy and all light pink. Maybe in the back? Since most are 2 feet tall, and the tallest is a rather plain all pink flower, I'm not sure what to do.?? (It also is a later bloomer, so the middle would be blank for now if I put it in the middle.) Where to place Blue eyed butterfly which is a showy flower, to show it off best? I would like to put similar colors together at least for this year. I have yellows (2 of each) Emerald Splendor and Glory Bright,( four "song in my heart"- rosy pink with a yellow/green center, 2 Flower Pot light pink, and peachy. Teh peachy is the one that clashes. It's supposed to be a cloud pink (It's a Miracle)but it's a peachy color with yellow edge.

Thanks everyone for the info. Anniegolden, I'll be carting my tape measure in to make sure I have enough space. The Rhodie is getting cut back a bit, so I'll have to see. A peach or melon color is an interesting thought. Any suggestions? Blue23rose, I have to admit that I am leaning toward Blueberry Sundae at the moment. I saw that plant and fell in love. My younger son, who has an artist's eye suggested a white or cream daylily to pop everything else and I think he might be right. Organic-kitten, my initial thoughts were a pink. Do you know of any with a blue/mauve undertone? I used to grow dianthus rose de mai with that color and it was gorgeous next to the geranium.

I think all of those can be moved fine, as long as they are kept watered. As I'm sure you know, pretty much anything is better off being moved in early spring, except for irises being moved in fall. But I've moved pretty much everything at all times during the summer, and I don't think I lost anything as long as they were well watered. You may not get flowers on your irises, and if you do, you may want to cut them off without blooming so they save their energy. As far as how long to keep in a holding bed...IMO the best thing would be for them to stay put in the holding bed until later summer/early fall and then transplant. But as I said, I think they could be moved back at any time, it just takes more TLC. Even though they say that fall is a great time to transplant perennials, I have lost a few doing it that way...I think sometimes they just don't have enough time to get settled and get over being stressed before it starts freezing.

Arranging mirrors, need some advice on placement

I love the butterflies too, wish I had a few bigger matching pieces! I believe they are matted to 8x10, I'd measure but I've temporarily lost track of them in the chaos. I can certainly get more mirrors, they were only $4 each! I guess the question would be how many would like right? What arrangement? That's the part i am struggling with most. How to make the idea work right. I'm thinking about the mixing in the butterflies a bit. My first thought is it would be a bit much in one area, but I'm going to think about it some more. Thanks for the suggestions! Hearing ideas here is very helpful and much appreciated.

With such variety. you probably should track them. Keep notes and tie various colors of yarn around the plant before it loses the bloom. This will make them easier to identify when moving them. If you run out of colors, double up with color combinations. I have only the conventional orange and double orange day lilies but I do this with my irises. They may be early, middle to late summer bloom so you might group them if they have different bloom times to get a performance out of them. My garden is focused group of bloom by month. Feb/March blooms near the house, circling the yard for June/July in back and circling back. There are many plants you can add as bloom mates.

Oh, well your daylilies are close enough in height that it probably won't make any difference at all how you arrange them. Have fun with them!!!
