Missing a key ingredient......what's yours?

I've got a great start to my cottage garden but I'm missing some key "ingredients". I'll take some pics and try to figure out how to post. I'm sure there's a link here somewhere with instructions.

My front gardens will take awhile to fill in but I've got a very nice show of color. My back gardens have filled in but with so many herbs planted, the only thing that has color (besides green) is my beautiful foxgloves that I've been patiently waiting for.

Now that our heatwave is over, I'd like to sit and stare for awhile and contemplate on what I'm missing. I can take some notes now and make a list of what I need for next year.....and what needs to be moved around.

What are your "key ingredients" for Early/mid June color? I'm in zone 5 NEPA. My iris is on the downside of blooming and I've got my 1st daylily showing. There should be something in between but I haven't figured it out yet!

I can't wait to hear what you have to say!! LC Grace
